75 cl. bottle sampled @ GBF 2013 as “Janus Triple”. Bright hazy orange with little white head. Nose is orange, flower petals, sweetish yeast, touch white bread,… Taste is sweet hay, sweet BE yeast, light hay and pepper in the back, touch sugar and light toffee, touch fruity. Hay and yeast body full. Not per se the best De Ranke beer but still a very nice beer. Thx! to the RB Crew for sharing.

Orange color with medium white head. Sweet and biscuity, flowery. Taste is sweet and flowery, not very boozy. I’ve had many Tripels like this in the last few days.

Davvero una tripel con le palle. Riempie il palato con un mare dolce e leggermente fruttato, con note di caramello e biscotto, che scivolano su un letto lievemente terroso. Ben ammortizzato il grado.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Precursor of Guldenberg, which the brother of the current De Ranke brewer already made as a hobby brew for beer shop Bacelle in Wevelgem - Guldenberg is an altered version of it. Wevelgemse Tripel is still made today and has a sticky, thick, creamy, snow white head and deep ’old gold’ colour, a bit hazy but a darker and fully cloudy peach blonde with deposit. Fruity and malty aroma with floral hops, pineapple, orange peel, apple juice, peach, white candi sugar, ginger, honey, white pepper. Fresh fruity onset with orangey touch, minerally carbonation, honeyish and caramelly malt sweetness, peppery and grassy hop bitter finish with clear alcohol, on the brink of becoming astringent. Does taste like a less noble, ’raw’ version of Guldenberg, but still a very decent tripel.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Small off-white head over fully hazy yellow to orangeish beer. Dry nose, yeast, estery, suggesting sweetness. Dry, grainy, and lots of dried hops. Bit herbal, wry but not crude. Some hints at maltsweetness. Dry - at the edge of dry-out effect. Alcohol hidden. Good De Ranke. Original - or Wevelgemse?

Hazy amber beer with just a small whitish rim. Neutral nose with some warm grain, some spices (possibly the yeast). Warm grain again, Band-aid, dried garden herbs. Light to medium bodied. Aftertaste is slightly herbal. And what was the idea here?

33cl bottle. Hazy orange with small to medium, white head. Nose : peach and tart notes, Sip : medium body with creamy texture. Low carbonation. The beer is quite sweet and estery as for a good triple. It got fruity notes of peach and banana, maybe some mandarine. It also has the brewery personal touch that translates with good bitterness. It gets quite herbal and peppery and stays long on the tongue. It’s easy to drink for a tripel. I like it a lot.
