old german99 (3), oreland, Pennsylvania, USA does not count Sep 13, 2002 very nice twist to the style. Could drink quite a few of these Firefaery (19), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Sep 30, 2004 Smooth brew, easy to drink. Roasted malt and hop combination in flavor. Russet- amber color. Good beer for the autumn season. PhillyBeer2112 (1861), Orange Park, Florida, USA Feb 6, 2001 After picking up the seasons current offering,
I’m obliged to come back and redo my previous
rating and evaluation. I’m not sure if the recipe
changed, my palate changed, I had a weird bottle, or
I was just insane, but last time I swear I detected
loads of hop flavor. However, in the current sampling,
there is nothing of the kind other than a very mild background
of hop bitterness. Instead, this is a rather malty offering, with
a clean sweet nose, and full malty sweet flavor. Nice medium
body. A bit on the cloudy side, but otherwise a nice brownish amber
color with a good head. jah noth (941), Rochester, New York, USA Sep 15, 2002 This is a very tastey, mildy malty brew. A tad thin but smooth with a nice hop balance. Cobra (1033), In the snake pit, Maryland, USA Sep 11, 2004 12 oz. brown, longneck bottle. No freshness date seen, but it’s the 2004 batch, knowing the store where I got it from. Poured out a brilliantly clear bright copper color, with a sticky white head. The head left a generous lacing down the sides of the glass. Aromas are of fresh Munich and Vienna malts, slight burnt sugar, some yeastiness and earthy hops. The hops are subdued in aromas, but strong and earthy in flavors. They provide a balancing factor to the sweet malts. It is a very well balanced beer, with nothing in particular rising above any other ingredient. Slight tastes of alcohol on the backend of this beer give it a definite kick. Stronger than most Octoberfests I’ve had, that much is certain. Thick mouthfeel is almost chewy from all the malts in it. Finishes very balanced and warming. Makes you want to say "Wunderbar."
