grandridge (137), Port Clinton, Ohio, USA Mar 1, 2008 Nice dark pour with a small head that dissipates to a thin lacing around my Rogue pint glass. The first aroma I got from this brew was chocolate and alcohol. The mouthfeel is medium-light, this brew is about dead on for mouthfeel of a porter. Medium carbonation. Flavors are chocolate, smoke, and coffee. Finishes dry with little alcohol flavor that was noticable in the aroma. Not a bad beer.
glkaiser (904), Seattle, Washington, USA Jul 30, 2008 Black with big head that dissipates quickly. Big aroma of molasses, soy, chocolate and espresso. Taste starts off innocently enough, with some bitter chocolate and significant soy. Finishes with too much metallic bitterness. Thin; this is too "extreme" to be a porter, but too weak to be an imperial stout. Does that make any sense? No? Good.
Ugh. Beerman6686 (654), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 11, 2008 Poured a very dark brown with a tan head. Aroma was mainly of chocolate and caramel. Flavor was also pretty sweet, mainly of chocolate, maybe some toffee and cappacino badbeer (404), Iowa, USA Jul 6, 2008 Poured very dark, almost black, with a light tan head that retained well and left some lacing. Smell had a small amount of roastiness, semi-sweet, a bit of hops as well. Taste had some roastiness, noticeable, but not plentiful. There was some sweetness, lactose, and some bitter, hoppy flavors as well. Mouthfeel was on the lighter side of medium and carbonation was on the higher end. Good drinkability, I could probably stand to have a few of these, even at 7 percent.
fishingnet (800), Brandon, Florida, USA Jun 29, 2008 Bottle courtesy tpd975. Pours a very dark clear brown with crimson highlights and a one finger tan head that fades to a ring and leaves some spotty lacing. Aroma of green hops, slight roast, molasses, and dark fruit. Taste is roasted malt, chocolate, green hops, spicy yeast, and molasses. Medium thin mouthfeel with a moderate amount of bitterness and smooth alcohol. Very good. jmm635 (44), Wynnewood, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 24, 2008 Bottled, pours dark brown, almost black ,with a tiny tan head. Smells and tastes of chocolate/coffee, definitely malty. Kind of a bitter finish, in my opinion. Not great....
