Blasphemy is our award winning QUAD aged in bourbon barrels. But not overaged, so we've picked up gentle vanilla oaky notes which complement rather than supercede the complex qualities that already make QUAD such an incredible beer.

Dark, cloudy amber pour with a quarter inch head that appears to be ever so slightly beige. Boozy aroma wafts up after a swirl of my snifter, unleashing a barrage of dark fruits. Strong notes of prunes, raisins, figs, and candi sugar, with an undertone of earthy barley. Subtle hints of vanilla and oak as it warms, and definitely more than a suggestion of bourbon. Taste is warm and sweet, a robust body enveloping the tongue and coating the mouth for several minutes. Sweet and fruity up front, somewhat of a blast of booze flavor, but not too much alcohol heat. Vanilla and oak flavors are very pronounced, though the bourbon itself seems overwhelmed by the plethora of other flavors. The oak really comes through in the aftertaste left on the tongue, and I found myself taking several minutes between sips to truly appreciate the complexities. This is how a bourbon barrel quad should be done. I’m not always easily impressed, but this beer elicited an audible "WOW" from my lips.

Sampled from a bottle, I was confused how this beer was aged, the label on the bottle reads this beer was aged in Whiskey Barrels, the Commercial Description read aged in Bourbon Barrels, and the Weyerbacher website reads the beer was aged in Bourbon Barrels, not sure what is right… this ale had a opaque dark brown-red pour and gave a small off-white head of bubbles that quickly receded to a small ring and left a few little islands of bubbles, the nose had aromas of prune and date dark fruit, toasted bread, bread-malt sweetness and dark fruit sweetness that resembled dates, a little vanilla and bourbon liquor, the dark fruit and brown sugar sweetness was out front, the flavors were dark fruit with toasted bread, bourbon liquor, a little vanilla, and lots dark fruit and bread sweetness with a pepper like spice hit, the finish had a pronounced alcohol spice bite with a little malt trailing, the mouth feel was almost medium and felt a little flat, it was a bit syrupy on the lips, it was not creamy, it had little to soft carbonation, the nose had a good dark fruit but the sweetness was a bit big and sort of got in the way of enjoying the drink, the flavor was a simple dark fruit and a big punch of a spice bite that got in the way of enjoying the drink, the alcohol was a bit much, I would not recommend.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy reddish brown with medium frothy off white head that lasts. The aroma is brown sugar, yeast, bready malts. Medium mouth, boozy, plums, brown sugar, vanilla, oak, very sweet, really good.

Strong Belgian-inspired ale with creamy, stable, egg white head and hazy copper colour. Rich, sweetly perfumed bouquet of vanilla, whisky, Belgian chocolates, cashew nuts, gingerbread, honey, apple cake, port, liquorice, banana and wood. Sweet, refined onset of candied cherries, banana and vanilla, sugary but not sticky, caramelly and nutty malts, smooth but full body, soft carbonation, complex finish of citrussy hops but more aromatic than bitter, woody tannins and a great deal of warming, but not burning, brandy- and whisky-like alcohol. Very pleasant and refined sipper, but seems more a barley wine than a true quadrupel to me.

Lively and very fizzy pour that produces a small head that fades very fast. Nicely balanced aroma and flavor. Barrel aging is done just right, present but not dominant. Solid beer. Had heard this year’s batch might have been infected but mine was fine.

2015 edition. Poured from large quarked bottle into tulip. Poured with big fizzy head which disapeared lighting fast. Color is ruby amber. Semi sweet aroma with notes of cherries and rasins. Taste is lightly sweet up front with a touch of bitter near finish. Notes of dried fruit and bread with some oak near finish. Light presence of tanins. Carbonation is moderate. The taste of alcohol is present but not overwhelming. Beer is great overall. Barrel age character not as strong as expected but well done, not overdone. Have had quad twice and enjoyed. This was first try at blasphemy and I am not disappointed.

Aromat: wyraźne nuty alkoholowe typowe dla whisky z przyjemną wanilią na czele. W tle karmel, melanoidyny, cukier kandyzowany, wiśnie w czekoladzie. Mimo sporego alkoholu, bardzo przyjemnie. Barwa: czerwona (miedziana) względnie klarowna, choć z powodu lekkiego naruszenia butelki widoczne pływające drobinki. Piana ecru, drobno pęcherzykowa. Niewielka i niemal natychmiast zanikająca. Smak: słodycz, owoce (wiśnie), cukier, wanilia, lekka czekolada. Wyraźna nuta alkoholowa. Goryczka lekko zaznaczona, delikatna i krótka. Krągła do tęgiej pełnia, umiarkowane do niskiego wysycenie i wyraźnie alkoholowa, rozgrzewająca przełyk końcówka oraz oleista konsystencja.

Very complex and nuanced. Solid structure with a good balance. I was able to pick up on barrel characteristics but they weren’t overpowering. I would buy this again and maybe try and cellar it for a year or so just to see the changes.

Pours a light hazy light brown amber. Has a faint fruit aroma with prune and raisin. A strong wheat and even stronger malty fruit (prune and raisin) taste with oak. A strong dark fruit malt aftertaste.

Amber, bit hazy with almost no head. Sweet fruity aroma. Sour and sweet, and once again sweet (well balanced, but too much for me) taste. Hazelnut notes, fruitiness.

Bottle. Pours a clear dark amber body under a small fizzy off-white head that faded to a thin ring. The nose is super fruity and sweet with a hefty influence from the barrel, lots of bourbon, vanilla, and wood. The vanilla really melds well with the fruity notes of plum and fig. The flavor is quite boozy and bourbon focused. Lots of vanilla, tannic wood, dark fruits, moderate alcohol, caramel sweetness, and a bit of tobacco. Medium bodied and fairly sticky with fizzy carbonation. There’s not a whole lot of yeastiness in here, it’s clearly an ’American Quad’ and not much of a reflection of the Belgian classics.
