3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours dark brown with a thin white head.
Tastes- The bourbon flavor was a bit over powering. But once the alcohol flavor faded a bit there is some brown sugar/vanilla sweetness that saves the beer from being to boozy.
MF-Very boozy beer with little to no carbonation.
Overall-Better than most beer with such a high ABV. The sweetness manages to prevent it from being too overwhelming but I will probably stick to Tripels and Dubbels in the future.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bomber into Trappist glass, deep clear rusty amber color with thin layer of creamy tan head. Aroma of wood, whiskey, rich malt sweetness, dark dried fruits (raisins, apricots, figs), brown sugar and yeast. Sort of a ying/yang of whiskey barrel vs. malt richness. Taste adds notes of vanilla, oak, candy sugar, faint spices, toffee, berries and light alcohol. Heavy body, low-moderate carbonation, sticky, soft with boozy sweet finish. Seems more like an English barlerywine than quad, intense malt sweetness offset by the whiskey barrel. Still pretty good, intense balanced flavors make this fun.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle poured at Tipples Rare and Barrel Aged Beer Tasting on July 13, 2014. Pours a lighter amber color, mostly clear, with a creamy off white head on top. Smells like nearly straight neat whiskey booze and not much else here, maybe some extra sweetness from the malts. Flavor is a bit harsh with sweet candi sugar, light spices, some caramel, vanilla, and lots of straight phenolic booziness. Body is medium, not standing up to the barrels, with low to medium carbonation. Overall this was a bit hot for me, with the whiskey masking the nice hearty sweet flavors from the quad.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
wonderful dark fruit smell....was going to wish it was stronger but I think it does gain strength with warmth..taste is the same dark fruits and hot alcohol.detracts from the taste a bit unfortunately...vanilla is definitely in there too...a touch less alcohol flavor and this would score a bit higher

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
"I don’t remember the quad being quite this fruity so maybe a lot of that is from the barrels? Strong whiskey influence, tons of fruit and some Dry yeast. Very pleasant combo. It does taste like whiskey and not bourbon, though. Maybe it changes year to year..."

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Deep amber color with a foamy beige head. Nose of buttery bourbon and rich sugar. I like the warming use of the barrel, but this beer is too sweet for a ggod quad. Lots of white sugar with some toffee, dried fruit and rich malt syrup. Too bad the base beer isn’t more complex.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Corked 75 cl bottle @ home. Pours hazy reddish brown with a lot of sediment and an off-white head that leaves a little lacing. Aroma and flavour are dried fruit, liquorice, wood, yeast and sugar - with an alcoholic finish.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Transfer from BA review on 8-18-12 -
Poured from 750 ml bottle into snifter glass
Appearance – Pours a lightly hazed ruby-brown color. The off-white head upon pouring has only a light retention. The fast fading head, when gone, leaves a persistent foam film on the surface of the brew.
Smell – The smell is heavy of dark fruits of cherry and prune. Other sweet aromas of a caramel nature mare also mixed within. A bourbon-boozy smell with accents of vanilla and oak are there as well and when mixed with the sweeter smells create a warming sweet smell.
Taste – A sweet caramel taste is big up front, but soon melds with a good dose of dark fruits. The cherry and plum flavors soon begin overwhelming the caramel. Around the same time a yeasty spice and boozy taste starts to enter the tongue. The yeast spice flavor remains relatively light through the rest of the taste but the alcohol gets stronger. A bourbon and almost rum like flavor get big, where some lighter notes of vanilla and a oak come to the tongue as well. In the end a warming rum and bourbon soaked dark fruit flavor are left on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is thick and creamy. It is very smooth feeling on the tongue, allowing the flavors of a sweet and boozy nature to soak in; taking these tastes to their maximum. The lighter carbonation level only accentuates the smooth body helping to create this creamy thick brew.
Overall –A wonderful sipper with some big flavor. Sit, sip, chat with a good pal, and enjoy. It’s delicious.
