At Weyerbacher, we prefer to brew things true to European style guidelines, so our barley wine is definitely on the malty side, without being overly sweet. Notes of date or perhaps fig on the palate follow a pleasurably malty aroma to your taste buds. The finish is warm and fruity, and begs for the next sip.

Bottle. Opaque orange body, minimal head. Sweet aroma with dried pineapple and some phenols. Sweet caramel taste with more dried fruit (pineapple, apricot, white raisins). Finish has a warming alcohol burn and some more fructose-like sweetness. Great winter sipper.

Pours a deep reddish-brown with a quick off-white head. Nose is boozy and sugary. Flavor is very bready with a good flash of booze and just a touch of fruit and hops. Finish is long and a little sticky. Definitely a barley wine, and hardly the best out there, though not bad overall.

Look : Toffee caramel colored body; 90% opaque; head is fleeting but 2 fingers initially. Mild lace left. Aroma : Lots of fermentation and alcohol. You can tell this beer is meant to wreck you. Notes of cherry, currant, fig, and plum swirl around in the snifter. Taste : Um...in your face??? A fig/cherry punch to the palate comes first, followed by furious destructive carbonation, a wall of alcohol burn, and finally a dry, figgy finish. Feel : Medium bodied, dry leathery feel throughout, alcohol burn very apparent. I could be sipping Vodka for all I know. Overall : Not for the faint of heart. This beer will kill you if you aren’t careful. Super powerful, super rich, very fig-cherry-like. I’d have it again, but damn this is going to leave me sprawled on the floor.

Drank with TImon 27-10-2015 at my place. Good, rich beer. Like the Barleywine profile. Only, a bit unbalanced, too sugary.

This US barley having a thin foam layer. It is unfiltered and draws fine lace in the glass. The aroma is of fresh summer berries and caramel. The taste is plum, peach and black currant. Highly potent and long-lasting fullness with a high vinousity. Little alcoholic aftertaste and a little tingling in the mouth because of its high alcoholic content. Incredibly good barley - just as I like it.

Born on date of 03/15/20 and a best by date of 03/20/20. This was poured into a tulip. The appearance was a nice looking black color with a thin rim of a white foamy head that quickly dissipated. There wasn’t any lacing. The smell started off with light raisins, sweet apples, a little bit of roastiness, and sweet cocoa. There’s a light breadiness rolling into blend nicely. The taste mainly copies the aroma and adds a bit more of the breadiness and raisin in the aftertaste. There’s a slight sticky little finish. On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a nice sessionable feel to it. Carbonation rides super low allowing the stickiness to dampen my tongue nicely. Overall, this is a good English barleywine. There really isn’t that normal "tobacco" back up in the aroma, still, I liked it for me. I’d have it again.

355 ml. bottle. Purchased @ Willems & Zoon. Bottled on 04/21/2015. Very dark brownish amber, tanned solid creamy head. Nose is very thick syrup herbal cough syrup, touch herbal Sirop de Liège, burned sugar, herbal caramel, very thick, syrupy cough syrup fare. Taste is very thick herbal, thick wild spices, faint five spices, big cough syrup, touch molasses, big herbal, herbal SIrop de Liège, cooked apples, touch raisin & brown banana, lingering herbal finish, wild spices, light herbal liquer, touch warming. Lower carb & cough syrp profile. Far too herbal & cough syrup like for me but still somewhat enjoyable in its own fashion. Interesting profile, rather surprised that something like this is so mainstream (relatively speaking).

Sampled from bottle thanks to Benzai. Smells very nice and reminds me of grapes. Has a very nice color and looks clear when hold to the light. Tastes strong and solid but a little bit fruity at the same time. Great beer if you ask me!

Bedankt Benzai voor deze nieuwe bier ervaring. Zeer aan het percentage. Ruikt, proeft en ziet er uit als geperste aardbeien met flink wat alcohol.
