COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
At Weyerbacher, we prefer to brew things true to European style guidelines, so our barley wine is definitely on the malty side, without being overly sweet. Notes of date or perhaps fig on the palate follow a pleasurably malty aroma to your taste buds. The finish is warm and fruity, and begs for the next sip.

Aroma: Malty at first with an estery alcohol flavor afterwards. Little to no hop aroma, possibly a tiny bit of vegetal-like aroma. Appearance: Light amber, with a small white head. The head dissipated rather quickly. Strong lacing in the glass Taste: Very malt forward. It is obvious that this is an English-style barley wine. Some light caramel flavors are present. The hops balance the maltiness, but there is very little hop flavor. Alcohol can be tasted slightly in the finish, but not unpleasantly. Mouthfeel: Full-bodied and excellent at first, with a nice dry finish. The dry, alcoholic finish makes this a very drinkable malt-forward beer. Overall: Not the best barley wine Iíve had, but surely drinkable. This is a great beer, even if it isnít the best in itís class. I would definitely recommend picking up a bottle. Perhaps it would be better if cellared.

Pours a dense hazy brown with fine-grained ring of head leaving OK lacing. Aroma is straight up candy; this is super sweet. Sugar, raisins, etc. Taste follows suit with plenty of sweetness. There is some drying and bitterness in the end, thankfully, but this is primarily a malt-forward sweet barleywine. Not complaining - itís super drinkable for the ABV. Would buy again.

Clear medium to dark amber color with one finger of lacing head. Aroma is spicy with notes of cloves, light fruit, and notes of alcohol. Taste is very sweet and boozy notes at the finish. A warming and delicious barleywine

tmoreau (2314) - Lombard, Illinois, USA - JUN 27, 2014
Shared 12 oz. bottle poured to snifters, showing a hazed, copper hue, with a bubbly layer of off white head foam, and minimal spots of lacing. The nose was sweet grain, light dried fruit, and some lurking alcohol presence. The taste was similar notes, decent malt, and alcohol warmth. All the right components were present, but didnít impress as anymore than an average Barleywine.

Bottle from Beer heaven. Malt dominates, semi-sweet aroma, some wood, and peat. Taste is more malt, burnt toast, oak barrel. Very abrupt finish and just a hint of alcohol warmth.

Bottle shared by sonnycheeba. Pours a darker amber with a minimal ring of off white head. Aroma of dark fruit and malts. A bit sweeter aroma than most, but not overly sweet. Taste is raisins, caramel, and booze with nice carbonation.

Totally good this. Very strong and malty. The shape is notorious and it is also very cloudy there.

Hazy dark copper with a big off white head, much bigger and more stable than I would have expected on a barley wine. Aroma of dried fruit, dark caramel, and raisins. Taste full and malty, dried fruit, sugar, raisins, caramel, and just a hint if dryness to balance it out. It is everything you should expect from a barley wine: full, rich, malty, but not heavy of cloying. Damn good (and I donít even like the style...)
