3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Aroma: Malty at first with an estery alcohol flavor afterwards. Little to no hop aroma, possibly a tiny bit of vegetal-like aroma.
Appearance: Light amber, with a small white head. The head dissipated rather quickly. Strong lacing in the glass
Taste: Very malt forward. It is obvious that this is an English-style barley wine. Some light caramel flavors are present. The hops balance the maltiness, but there is very little hop flavor. Alcohol can be tasted slightly in the finish, but not unpleasantly.
Mouthfeel: Full-bodied and excellent at first, with a nice dry finish. The dry, alcoholic finish makes this a very drinkable malt-forward beer.
Overall: Not the best barley wine Iíve had, but surely drinkable. This is a great beer, even if it isnít the best in itís class. I would definitely recommend picking up a bottle. Perhaps it would be better if cellared.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
caramel, coffee, alcohol, nuts, earthy, grass, citrus, herbs.
Deep amber colour, small off-white head.
Noticable bite, heavy sweetness, lightly salty, ABV evident, slightly boozy. Caramel and toffee dominate.
Fullbodied, sticky feel, soft carbonation, sweet and warming finish.
Solid, would have liked a more complex hop character to give an even higher mark.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 oz bottle pours an almost clear mahogany/amber with small off-white head that leaves little lacing. Aroma has caramel, cherry, raisins, and other dark fruits. Taste is slightly bitter at first, with a sweet middle and a slightly boozy finish. Body is medium with average carbonation and a syrupy mouthfeel. This is not a harsh barleywine at all, but thereís a lot going on here. Itís a sipper for sure, otherwise a few would make me a blithering idiot.

4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Slight grassy nose and pours amber with a lacey head. Front pallet has a slightly bitter but Barley Wine sweetness mostly from the malt. Difficult to discern a specific fruit taste. ALC content gives a nice warming fell at the back pallet. Finishes with a slight saliva forming sweetness that true to the companyís advertising, does make one enjoy another sip.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Cloudy amber with medium beige head. Aroma is like apple cider and caramel. Sweet, fruity flavor (hints of cherry and dates). Medium body and carbonation and the alcohol warms the throat. Nice end to a chilly winter evening.

3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a dark amber color with a cream colored head. Aroma is caramel, boozy, raisins, and circus peanuts. Flavor is toasted malt, caramel, and toffee up front with dried dates, figs, pears and golden raisins. Fruity, boozy finish. Really nice brew. Aroma doesnít do much for me but the flavor is very complex.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Poured from a bottle. Pours a cloudy deep caramel brown color, like iced tea, with a thin tan ring. Medium carbonation and lacing. Aroma of sweet caramel toffee and a hint of vanilla and a big warm finish. Alcohol is prominent but not harsh. Most of the heat stays on the palate and not in your throat.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
An English style Barleywine at its core, Blithering Idiot doesnít come on hot and heavy like some of these brews. The alcohol heat is hidden pretty cleverly. Itís definitely not an aggressive Barleywine in terms of hops. Flavors center on butterscotch, caramel, syrup, and succulent fruit with hints of buttery chocolate. Feel is exceptionally smooth. Very little head with the pour, and the aroma is mild and malty. You wouldnít expect the 11.1%. A few of these could most certainly reduce you to a blithering idiot.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Dark fruit and malt dominant the nose. Deep, dark maroon pour with a thin head. Taste takes over where the nose leaves off, more dark fruit and malt. Booze also is noticeable, nice alcohol burn here. Palate is thick and lingers. Overall, a wonderful beer to sip on. Must try.
