2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
ouch, this tasted fruity, but it packed a nasty kick in the head - it’s well named, I felt like a "blithering idiot" for the rest of the night, it went straight to my head and left me with a pounding headache for the rest of the night, guess it was just too damn strong for me.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a deep reddish mahogany color. Notes of heavy fig, licorice, belgian candi sugar, and dried fruit. Way too sweet and the alcohol is not well integrated.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours very attractive dark orange amber with red highlights and small tan head that dissipates with little trace.
Aroma not as big as one might expect, but intense malt, alcohol, caramel and honey. On the palate, it has a hot, buzzy sweetness turning bitter on the finish, burnt caramel.
Points for attempting an actual barleywine, as opposed to the unpalatable over-hopped frauds often passed off by US breweries. But its not as deep and unctuous _ as winey _ as the best barleywines, and needs time in the cellar to smooth its rough edges.
I may come back to this in six months or a year and see if it has progressed.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
bottle. Amber with small head. Sweet caramel malt base. Medium body. Moderate hops, but low bitterness. Very slight booze. It’s amazing how smooth and easy this drinks for an 11% barleywine. Really well done.

Taste begins sweet and powerful. Full body. Good sourness that matches the sheer bitter flavour. Medium finish. Very good.
