COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
At Weyerbacher, we prefer to brew things true to European style guidelines, so our barley wine is definitely on the malty side, without being overly sweet. Notes of date or perhaps fig on the palate follow a pleasurably malty aroma to your taste buds. The finish is warm and fruity, and begs for the next sip.

On tap at Uno’s Hamilton. I guess I;m just not a fan of some of the bigger Weyerbacher beers. Either that, or these examples today are simply outmatched by the other superior beers that I am drinking this session. Either way, this is yet another bomb in my opinion.

Pours very attractive dark orange amber with red highlights and small tan head that dissipates with little trace. Aroma not as big as one might expect, but intense malt, alcohol, caramel and honey. On the palate, it has a hot, buzzy sweetness turning bitter on the finish, burnt caramel. Points for attempting an actual barleywine, as opposed to the unpalatable over-hopped frauds often passed off by US breweries. But its not as deep and unctuous _ as winey _ as the best barleywines, and needs time in the cellar to smooth its rough edges. I may come back to this in six months or a year and see if it has progressed.

Bottle thanks to respertFTW. Cloudy garnet with a tan head. Plumbs, cherries, and toffee. Similar flavors with tannins and boozy heat.

bottle. Amber with small head. Sweet caramel malt base. Medium body. Moderate hops, but low bitterness. Very slight booze. It’s amazing how smooth and easy this drinks for an 11% barleywine. Really well done.

Pours hazy reddish amber with little head. Intense aromas of honey, caramel, citrus drop, orange candy, ripe plantain, dandelion... Taste begins sweet and powerful. Full body. Good sourness that matches the sheer bitter flavour. Medium finish. Very good.

UPDATED: APR 21, 2015 Caramelized malt, candied sugar and hop aroma. Low carbonation. Taste is full flavored and finishes sweet. Hops balance the sweetness nicely. Alcohol is fairly hidden. Could be a dangerous one at 11% ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 oz bottle into tulip. Light chill beyond cellar temp. Aroma is fruity and maybe some light caramel malts. Very dark amber or almost ruby in color half inch light tan head disappears very quickly. No lacing at all. Beer is almost flat looking. Taste is lightly sweet and light to medium bitter. Malty notes of dried fruit such as raisins. Medium bodied with a thin texture. Soft to flat carbonation. Long warm and fruity finish. Not surprisingly, considering it is 11.1%, the taste of alcohol is clearly present. Over all good beer. Good sipper for a cold night or raw day. Im still getting to know more about the style personally. I will probably leave the other three of the four pack cellar for a while.
