COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
At Weyerbacher, we prefer to brew things true to European style guidelines, so our barley wine is definitely on the malty side, without being overly sweet. Notes of date or perhaps fig on the palate follow a pleasurably malty aroma to your taste buds. The finish is warm and fruity, and begs for the next sip.

UPDATED: JUL 25, 2011 Bottle. Poured a cloudy reddish-brown with a very small light pink fizzy head that was fully diminishing in a matter of seconds and had virtually no lacing to speak of. The aroma was strong up front of a nutty cookie like malt, a mild dose of flowery hops, and a strong presence of a doughy yeast with hint of dried fruit (raisins, figs and maybe plums). It tasted moderately sweet, fruity and a little sour with a nice note of raisins in the beginning and finished with this nice bitter-sweet flavor with a hint of dried fruit and had a moderate warming sensation from the alcohol at the end. The flavor was left lying on the taste buds for a fair amount of time allowing you to savor this tasty nectar. Mouthfeel was medium in body and oily in texture with the carbonation being very soft. Overall a fantastic Barleywine Ale with an abundance of flavor that does an awesome job of concealing the high alcohol content.

Pours a caramel brown color with no foam head. Aroma is sugary sweet, honey, caramel, and dark fruits. Flavor is similar, with a pleasing sweetness. No alcohol bite or burn. Feels lighter than its ABV. Decent.

Nothing special appearance wise. Average color with minimal head and no retention or lacing. Slightly oily mouth feel that coats mouth. Flavor is smooth and filled with sweet flavor. Fruity and malty with some boozey flavor without any alcohol burn. Ok drink, nothing special.

poured into snifter a very slightly hazed bottle brown with thin just off white head and some lace. Aroma is figs, alcohol, and caramel. Itís fruity and candy sweet. Taste is sweetined figs, with a gaining grain taste as you swallow. Finish is slightly alcohol and warming. Like drinking a Fig Newton. Really like this one.

Aroma of figs, dates, prunes and alcohol. Sweet flavour of dark fruit along with burned caramel and a very decent bitterness. Alcohol dads warmth and it stays on the tongue and in the throat for a long time. Powerful in flavour without going over the top. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

color is burnt copper. Aroma is thick of sweet dark fruits. Its boozy, and gets more intense as it warms. flavor is sweet, bread and dark fruits. sticky mouth feel. The alcohol is not hidden in the malty sweetness. alcohol gets real intense in the finish. Good barley wine. They advertise this as not overly sweet but it is. That is my only knock on it.

Tap, another overly sweet BW that is a struggle to finish and reminds me why I donít like this style. Although, there are some very good BWs; this isnít one of them. This really suffers from lack of hop aroma, flavor, and bitterness. Unbalanced and boring.
