A: Pours a very dark brown color with a finger of off-white/tan head. S: Fairly chocolatey on the nose with plenty of roasted malts and a bit of licorice, mild raisin notes as well. Maybe a hint of peat/smoke. Definitely a spice note to it, perhaps some cinnamon. T: Things are very much the same on the palate. A touch of smoke, cinnamon, and dark chocolate. Roasted malt and a touch of coffee. There isn’t all that much fruit to it like there was on the nose, but there is a bit of leather to it. M: Medium in body with a moderate carbonation and a smooth feel on the tongue. O: Nothing really stood out about this beer. It wasn’t bad, but it didn’t really have any flavors that I felt were all that great.

From notes: Pours pitch black and almost completely opaque with only the slightest of mahogany tint when held to a light source. 1.5 finger frothy coffee colored head that has great retention, only slowly fading into a lasting ring that leaves streaks of lacing behind. Spicy aroma with hints of roasted malt, gingerbread, chocolate, ginger, nut and chocolate. Lighter end of medium bodied with a very prominent spice flavor that kind of overpowers the rest of the flavors. Slightly roasty with hints of toast, gingerbread, cinnamon and cookie. Think liquid ginger snap. Unique but slightly watered down and gimmicky. I’m glad I got to try it but I wouldn’t purchase it again.

Taste reminds me very much of a glass of rootbeer or sarsaparilla. Spices are not over-powering, on the light side, really. A bit hollow on the mid-palate. OK, but not great.

Thanks to tpd975 for opening this one. Pours dark brown, light tan head. Aroma of ginger and cinnamon spices, plenty of roasted goodness. Flavors, hints of coffee, roasted malts blend nicely with the ginger and cinnamon profile and a touch of chocolate in the finish. I think these spices complement the stout perfectly not overpowering the roasted aspect.

A: Pours dark brown with a small khaki colored head. No real retention or lace. S: Aromas of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, caramel, and light spice. T: Ligth spice, roasted malt, and smooth chocolate. M: Medium in body, tingly carbonation.

Bottle. Nearly black pour with tan, fizzy head that sticks around for a while. Smell is sweet and roasty. Taste is sweet with a little bit of chocolate. Finish is a little more bitter than I would have liked. Body is very smooth, just enough carbonation. Very drinkable beer.

Pours viscously to black beer with dark brown-beige, medium & collapsing head. Lightly spicy, lightly bready nose, not unlike a German Doppelbock; walnuts, ink, dark & sweet chocolate. Very neutral main taste, ending on dry-spicy and woody finish. Taste is much drier than a Doppelbock would be. Surprisingly little trace of molasses, and the cinnamon is not very present neither - aka good balance. Aftertaste reverts to chocolate. Well-bodied, slick, but giving a thinner impression. Some alcohol. Nice, not overloaded (with spice) holiday ale. Big thanks to Mike K!
