Commercial Description:
Fast on the heels of our fantasticly reformulated Hops Infusion, our brewers have picked up the gauntlet and brewed a Double IPA using exclusively Simcoe(R) Hops! This west coast Hops was created in 2000 by Select Botanicals, Inc. and carries a fantastic flavor profile abounding with citrusy-grapefruit, piney, resiny notes that pushes this Double IPA over the top. 9.0% ABV in the brew gives it a nice malt foundation as well. Draft and bottles, 12 oz. in PA, 22 oz. out of state (as we have no 6-packs),

Pours an extremely hazy orange with medium off-white head, lots of lacing. Aroma apparently of Simcoe hops, slightly citrus, slightly floral, hints of pine. Flavor is similar, not all that bitter, but nice and complex, thoroughly enjoyable.

Good aroma and taste of strong citrus hops with a bitter but balanced finish. Poured a perfect amber color with fluffy off-white head. Wow what a great IPA! LC

Overall Impression: Another older rating of a Weyerbacher beer. I know I enjoyed this one, but I really need to review it again soon to give a full report.

Foggy orange with thick foamy beige head that coats glass as it thins. Floral citrus hop aroma. Creamy, bi too sweet orange flavour. Warming bitter orange aftertaste.

It was good, but I don’t know about a 99 rating, there are much better double IPA’s out there, in my oppinion. I love simcoe hops, but I think they were misrepresented in this beer. Too much bittering and not enough flavor hopping for my liking. With this style, I also look for a solid malt backbone, which I didn’t really experience here.

Bottle. Rated this sometime in my rb infancy, but that rating sucked to the point I felt it worthy of deletion. Intriguingly, I feel nearly the same about this beer. Ridiculously overhopped bomb with some caramel malt that just kind of sits there, adding nothing to the beer. No, the focus is entirely on the hops, and they are just harsh, mouth-burning nonsense.

750 ml. dark crystal, harsh bitter, and alcohol bite. some citrus and pine aroma but the bitter basically knocks your tastebuds out. the dark crystal dominates. i prefer the flavor and aroma hops to be showcased. not bad but not my favorite. tried hop stoopid a few days prior and enjoyed it much more... and it was 3 dollars less!

Bottle. Amber beer with an off-white head. Grapefruit and light pine aroma. Nice grapefruit and pine flavor with backing caramel. Medium-plus bodied. Caramel, grapefruit and pine linger. Nice bitterness. A bit too much caramel and so could use a bit more bitterness for an IIPA. Very nice, but also somehow just missing something.
