4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: SEP 23, 2007 Bottle split with Muenster. This beer is good from the get go with a cloudy dark amber body and a tall white head. Lacing is dense and throughout the tasting the head stays firm. Ah, my craving for an IIPA is teased with a deep, spicy, floral aroma. The scent is quite fruity overall with a boquet of citrus and sap. The mouthfeel is right on, just slightly sticky with medium carbonation. The stickiness really accents the sappy flavor profile. Over top, we have very bright notes of grapefruit, pineapple, pine seeds, and sweet caramel. Iím amazed at the depth derived from the use of a single hop strain. Clean, assertive, and balanced, this is an excellent example of this American style.
[Sept 23 2007] Got another small bottle of this one. This is definitely one of my favorite IIPAís. I thought I would have something to add, but I think my initial rating sums it up quite well. Iíd just like to note that I still agree that this beer is awesome.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Amber color with a reddish hue...very piney..bit of honey, a splash you might say...aftertaste of grapefruit and misc. citrus..not as good as i anticipated..the label is the shit though...the grapefruit is extremely overwhelming on the taste/aftertaste....then it gets in a warm mix with the resin and gets itself in a sour/sticky mess...just an awkard combonation of flavors, may be really good if pared with the proper food...alcohol is disguised quite well

Nice malty double IPA, with loads of citrus flavors balanced out with that nice malty sweetness. Drinkable and delicious, but so many double IPAs are. Iím starting to wonder if making a great IIPA is really such a feat...

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottled. This was a good beer. Iím guess Iím not a Simcoe hop person. Was a little to citrusy for me. Had a good bite to it however.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
22oz bomber courtesy of sliffy, no date that I can find. Pours a hazy copper orange red with a two finger creamy yellowish head. Wonderful aroma of pineapple and grapefruit up front with some sweet caramel malts mixed with a bit of resiny pine. Didnít really smell like itíd be terribly bitter--more of an aroma hop thing--but the flavor proved me way wrong. There was some sweetness near the beginning, but after that itís all hops and lots of bitterness. Flavor had more pine than any of the other aforementioned aromas. There was a fair amount of astringency, too. As it warms there is a little more of a citrusy sweaty flavor. Dry, moderately bitter finish. A little warming ETOH in the belly. Moderate, somewhat sharp carbonation with a full body. Quite delicious.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
One of the best IPAs I have ever tasted! The perfect mix of bitterness and drinkability. Ever laugh at someoneís face after they eat a lemon? Let a casual beer drinker take a sip of this and you will see the same expression. High class IPA!

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle provided by JHop. Pours hazy rubied and burnt orange with a small frothy off-white head that mostly diminishes, lined-spotty lacing. Aroma is huge floral and pine, fruity, sweet candied citrus hops, oranges, sweet caramel and maple malt (straw, meal) and yeast (sweat). Heavy pine and dry resiny hops, citrus rind, caramel malt and earthy straw, yeast is present near the end, the sweetness is subdued by the hops. Medium bodied, fizzy and dry palate.
