andersand (271), Malmö, Sweden Mar 10, 2009 I have had a few too many simcoe single hops to entirely enjoy this but it’s still tasty. Starts out sweet and quickly turns very bitter. Has somewhat sharp edges but if youre up for a big, sticky and somewhat edgey imperial IPA it’s cool. hubcrawler (36), , Virginia, USA Mar 9, 2009 Bottle from Grape and Gourmet. Pours a burnt- orange color that is slightly turbid and is capped off with a buttercream head. There are notes of roasted malt and pine with the malt being very prevalent. Mallty taste with a solid hop finish and some underlying sourness. A big beer with big flavor. yayforbeer (641), Orange Park, Florida, USA Mar 7, 2009 Single from Total Wine. Aroma of sweet, citric hops. Orange-amber beer with a thick and long lasting white head. If you are a hop-head, this is definitely your beer. Very full and thick body for an IPA, with enough malt sweetness to support the huge blast of hops. Firm hop bitterness throughout. Alcohol not noticeable in the flavor, but it has a pretty good kick. Excellent single-hop DIPA. The Simcoe hop flavor is just right for an IPA. Good balance, and very satisfying. mcc5468 (102), USA Mar 6, 2009 Updated: Mar 29, 2009On tap at The Distillery, Savannah, GA. Rather dark cloudy orange color. Aroma was definitely pine. Big hop taste -- didn’t disappoint. Big beer. Good Double IPA. Alcohol is definitely present. Beardface (977), Eugene, Oregon, USA Mar 4, 2009 This one might have been slightly out of date because to me the hops were fairly muted. Still not a bad brew though, nice aromas and flavors of the usual citrus and pine suspects. Was hoping for more though... jthg (66), Austin, Texas, USA Mar 4, 2009 Sweet malt enters the nose. The aroma begs a bit more hops - especially from the name. Mouth watering array of resinee citrus goodness tantalize the tongue.
After the beer leaves the mouth, it leaves the mouth awesome. three seconds later, the mouth screams with bitterness.
Friends mentioned the beer almost starts out ?smokey?. ericandersnavy (1039), crossroads, Texas, USA Mar 4, 2009 bottle thanks to daknole. poured a hazy gold with a thin white head. aroma of grapefruit, caramel, pine, sweet, and fruity. flavor was grapefruit, hops, grass, with a nice bitter. medium body and low carbonation. NDbeerdrinker (164), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA Feb 28, 2009 Really good DIPA. Full bodied and great mouthfeel. Pours a dark orange white a thin white head that leaves nice lacing. Hops, grapefruit, pine, all of the best aspects of a good IPA done right in this one.
