(KSBF) Pours a nice amber color with a sm tan head. The aroma is of citrus, hops, and caramel malts. Taste is very hoppy with a strong grapefruit finish. Kind of bitter but but very well balanced. uhclem (188), Loveland, Colorado, USA Oct 26, 2008 Updated: Oct 28, 2008Great IIPA! Nice Hazy amber pour. Aroma lives up to the description. Malty addition is a good compliment and balances the alcohol. Silky mouthfeel and excellent finish. jredmond (1015), New Jersey, USA Oct 23, 2008 Updated: Sep 14, 200912 oz bottle shared with a buddy in hoboken. Im not a big fan of IPAs but this was good. The 9% is well hidden, the aroma and taste are not too bitter. LtJudge (431), Muskego, Wisconsin, USA Oct 23, 2008 Pours a cloudy amber color with a medium off white head.Wonderful piney/citrus hop aroma with little hint of malt barely peeking through all that hop!!Taste of citrus hops dominates the flavor, with a nice solid caramel malt backing. A wonderful full bitterness finishes this brew up. Great flavor and nicely balanced! Seems like a big IPA vs a Double IPA.Thanks Brewblackhole! nightrider (370), encinitas, California, USA Oct 20, 2008 Updated: Oct 21, 2008Bottle from a trip to DC . Cloudy orange gold. Off- white head. Citrus nose. Hoppy, balanced malt with a slight mod resin feel. Unique and solid! JohnQPublic (387), Brooklyn, New York, USA Oct 17, 2008 Bottle. Pours a cloudy dark orange, bordering on reddish-brown, with a thin, creamy tan head. Nose is gorgeous - huge sweet citrus note (grapefruit, orange rind) underpinned by a nice resiny note and just a bit of spicy alcohol. Taste is all hops, all the time - a bit rough, with a fairly aggressive carbonation, flavor is sweet caramel malt underneath, highlighted by the citrus notes from the hops, but sitting on top of that is a huge, piny, resiny bitterness that sits on and dominates the palate, with just a bit of harsh astringency along for the ride. Trades any hint of complexity for the ability to just bludgeon the drinker with hops. Mouthfeel is slick and oily, with fairly aggressive carbonation. A bit rough and aggressive for my tastes, but still a great beer, and some I’m sure will call this one Nirvana. I’d like a bit less alcohol presence, creamier carbonation, and a bit less astringency. All those things happen, and it’s an utterly fantastic beer.
