Commercial Description:
Fast on the heels of our fantasticly reformulated Hops Infusion, our brewers have picked up the gauntlet and brewed a Double IPA using exclusively Simcoe(R) Hops! This west coast Hops was created in 2000 by Select Botanicals, Inc. and carries a fantastic flavor profile abounding with citrusy-grapefruit, piney, resiny notes that pushes this Double IPA over the top. 9.0% ABV in the brew gives it a nice malt foundation as well. Draft and bottles, 12 oz. in PA, 22 oz. out of state (as we have no 6-packs),

Bottle from a trip to DC . Cloudy orange gold. Off- white head. Citrus nose. Hoppy, balanced malt with a slight mod resin feel. Unique and solid!

Bottle. Pours a cloudy dark orange, bordering on reddish-brown, with a thin, creamy tan head. Nose is gorgeous - huge sweet citrus note (grapefruit, orange rind) underpinned by a nice resiny note and just a bit of spicy alcohol. Taste is all hops, all the time - a bit rough, with a fairly aggressive carbonation, flavor is sweet caramel malt underneath, highlighted by the citrus notes from the hops, but sitting on top of that is a huge, piny, resiny bitterness that sits on and dominates the palate, with just a bit of harsh astringency along for the ride. Trades any hint of complexity for the ability to just bludgeon the drinker with hops. Mouthfeel is slick and oily, with fairly aggressive carbonation. A bit rough and aggressive for my tastes, but still a great beer, and some I’m sure will call this one Nirvana. I’d like a bit less alcohol presence, creamier carbonation, and a bit less astringency. All those things happen, and it’s an utterly fantastic beer.

22oz bottle, thanks to bmartin08. Deep amber/bronze with a nice big head that boils away nicely. Very smooth and powerful flavor, definitely a one-note in the right kind of way, an effect of the single-hop. well done

12 oz bottle. Pours slightly hazy copper in color with a medium sized sticky beige head. Aroma is of very floral hops, sweet caramel malt, citrus hops. Tastes is initial trademark simcoe; light grassy, sticky, sweet, floral hop. Flavors of caramel, lemon grass, grapefruit and other citrus fruits as well. Nice body and bitter finish. Very solid hop head IIPA.

Man oh man, this one is one of a kind. My goodness! The only bad thing to say about this one is that it couldv’e been a little smoother on the palate. I know that’s a lot to ask but I couldn’t find any other thing wrong with it. Absolutely one of my favorites now. To sad It’s not available in Tx.

Bottle, Lancaster Beer Festival... the overall balance and flavor is amazing... floral and hoppy, not too bitter... Simcoe Hops are great...

Bottle from Discount Liquors. Pours an attractive Deep bronze-red, a lot like Gordon. Nice off-yellow head. Nose isn’t as strong as I would have expected, though that could be due to the burnt bread in the kitchen. NOse is grassy and slightly citric. In my experience there is little to no pine coming off of a simcoe hop, just a very floral, albeit slightly resinous aroma. (I know, resinous sounds like pine, but it’s not). Taste is crushingly bitter, lots of citrus, followed by crisp, not astringent, bitterness. This is much more bitter than the beers I’ve brewed with Simcoe, likely due to amounts and way used. But this is a very nice hop, minimal grassiness in taste. Distinct alcohol and a thick body (which is expected.) Exceptional IIPA.
