Commercial Description:
Fast on the heels of our fantasticly reformulated Hops Infusion, our brewers have picked up the gauntlet and brewed a Double IPA using exclusively Simcoe(R) Hops! This west coast Hops was created in 2000 by Select Botanicals, Inc. and carries a fantastic flavor profile abounding with citrusy-grapefruit, piney, resiny notes that pushes this Double IPA over the top. 9.0% ABV in the brew gives it a nice malt foundation as well. Draft and bottles, 12 oz. in PA, 22 oz. out of state (as we have no 6-packs),

I really enjoyed this beer as it poured a nice golden color with smells effervescing from it that were strictly of hops. Taste was exceptionally smooth for a double IPA. Mouthfeel was silky and pleasant and there was no lingering aftertaste except for a clean hoppy palate.

Bottle 12fl.oz. [ Courtesy of Gazza ]. Clear medium yellow orange color with a average to large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, heavy hoppy, pine, grapefruit. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration. Body is medium to full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. Very nice ;o)) (260708)

Pours a mahogany/amber color with a large frothy eggwhite head that fades rather quickly, leaving LOTS of sticky lacing. Aroma is some piney hops, grapefruit, and cat piss. Taste is grapefruit, piney bitterness, and caramel malts. Meh, all right.

Pour is a bit too cloudy for my liking, otherwise it’d be a 5, beautiful off-white head. Aroma, pure hops of grapefruit, pine and other various citrus. Flavor is wonderful hops of the pine and grapefruit. Palate is an incredibly creamy, smooth, warm feeling with a nice bitter end. A very impressive brew. Thanks GrbDg!!!

Very attractive beer when poured. Copper in color with brilliant clarity and a head of foam that’s thick, creamy and rocky in appearance. Lace that sticks to the sides of the glass from beginning to end. A very refreshing look. Taste and aroma using only one type of hop, Simcoe, has everything you want in an ipa.Piney aroma. Some floral and citrus notes in the nose also. Goes down very smooth. An oily slick feeling on the palate with piney notes up front and intence grapefruit lingers into the finish. Sweet caramel malt does show up but hops stay ahead throughout but are not overpowering. Very balanced for a double ipa. The last sip you take carries some of the residual hops that settle to the bottom of the glass which takes all the characteristics mentioned above and amplifies it a couple of notches. Which to me isn’t a bad thing at all.

Thanks Daknole. A very cloudy brown / amber colored beer with an off white head that quickly forms a ring. Aroma is very sweet and very fruity. Some caramel as well. Flavor jumps up and down and screams "I am hops!" Grapefruit and pine but with a full caramel malt profile. A very aggressive flavor and it has to be the best tasting double IPA I have had. Just delicious (and I am not a hophead). Big, bold, ballsy, brash. Late in the glass some nice dark fruit shows up. That was unexpected. Alcohol isn’t tasted but provides warming and my liver is not happy with me. I can get a transplant, give me another one of these!

12oz bottle. Pours a deep orangey copper that is slightly hazy. A thin light tan head pours up at first, but fades into a thin, but persistent, disc that leaves a fair bit of long-legged and splotchy lace on the sides of the glass. The aroma is very hoppy - resiny with some grapefruit and hints of tropical fruit along with hints of sweet caramel and honey. The odor of alcohol is also apparent, although far from off-putting. The flavor starts balanced and very bitter - balanced meaning there is good bit of malts and residual sweetness that manage to carry it. The bitterness is intense and coats the tongue thoroughly, leaving it dry. The bitterness is earthy, sharp, and piney. The bitterness tastes a little more neutral and clean as the beer nears the back of the tongue. The finish is bitter with some herbal, citrus, evergreen, and earthy characters. There is a touch of sweetness throughout, but it is overpowered in the finish leaving the beer dry and very hoppy. The end of the beer is slightly warming with alcohol - but overall the alcohol is well-hidden. The mouthfeel is well-bubbled but not overcarbonated - just bubbly enough so that the carbonic sting enhances/increases the perceived bitterness. The mouthfeel is very big in body and a little slippery and resiny. Overall, a decent double IPA but not quite as good as I was hoping. It tastes balanced at first, but the hops hammer back the malts by mid-palate resulting in a slight astringency. It is a very good beer - but I was hoping for something truly marvelous based on word-of-mouth about this one...

Pour is very nice cloudy amber with a bountiful off-white head that stays the length of the drink. It’s all spicy resinous floral hoppage up in my face when i smell, maybe an underlying sugary sweetness. Tastes like a hopgasm. Friggin’ wow dude, that’s hoppy. Very resinous tasting to me, like i just swallowed half a pine cone. Completely awesome. This beer has serious IBUs, so if you can’t handle man beer, just don’t even try. This one will make you piss hops for a week. I guess there’s a little sweet malt backbone too, if anyone even cares in a beer like this.
