CheersMate1 (770), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Jul 19, 2008 Found this gem at one of the local bottle shops. I have never seen this brewer before, so I hope everything tastes great. The beer has a decent head retention. The beer has an orange/caramel brown color. The beer is pretty much transparent. Very floral aroma. There is somewhat of a sweet malt aroma to this beer. The hops are very pungent. The hops smell of citrus and pine, and of course the malt smell is there. The beer has a powerful hop taste. The bittering hop is ridiculous, the flavoring hop is ridiculous, but the aroma hop is the weakest of the bunch. The beer does not have much of a malt taste, the hops dominate. The hops are very nice. As soon as I drink the beer the hops are all over my tongue. Very nice and crisp hop flavor. The beer has a nice palate. The beer is not too creamy/oily, but not too thin. The beer has a nice palate. Overall, a great bitter beer with a decent hop aroma, but great hop taste. rajendra82 (698), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA Jul 18, 2008 Clear, orange-amber body and a head crowning above the rime greeted me after poring out the newly arrived Double Simcoe into a pint glass. The smell was clean and piney and had spicy undertones and a peach backing. The taste was bitingly bitter with an immediate puckering reaction, which to me is just what a double IPA should induce. There was a lot of pine in every sip. The malts were toasty and nutty, but stood no chance against the hop onslaught. The hop burn in this beer lasted from start to finish and beyond. Just what a double IPA should be. I’ll need to horde more of this. darn1207 (529), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Jul 17, 2008 12oz bottle. murky copper orange color. medium sized creamy tan head. wonderful mix of hops, caramel, oranges and floral scents. nice fruit and pine flavors and plenty of hoppy bitterness. creamy smooth texture. bitter finish that keeps coming at you. big fan of this one. SSSteve (2049), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Jul 17, 2008 a murky burnt orange pour under a large creamy beige head. big sweet resiny mandarin scented hops and some touches of bready malt in aroma. surprisingly smooth palate for all those hops and it being 9%. juicy and fruity flavors of big mandarin, pine, peach, grapefruity hops with a malty bready backbone for good measure. well crafted, and welcome to GA. Palidor19 (1750), Brandon, Florida, USA Jul 17, 2008 wohoo!! the initial aroma has a great deal of strong herbal/floral and piny smells with the malts at a medium style but the hops bring it to a everlasting greatness. palate a tad below perfection but the rest makes this a must have. nick76 (2636), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 17, 2008 The aroma is fantastic with those Simco hops and sweet caramel malt. The appearance is amber with an average head. The flavor is like the aroma and robustly bitter. The palate is smooth. Overall it’s quite nice. Dedollewaitor (3625), Odense, Denmark Jul 16, 2008 12 oz bottle. Trade with TheEpeeist. Thanks a lot. Pours slightly unclear orange with a creamy white head & lacings. Aroma is of fruity & bitter hops. Lots of pine, grapefruit & soap. Very mild sweet touch. Sticky & good smooth palate. Crisp & ends very dry & bitter! Lovely! wcampbell (572), Central, South Carolina, USA Jul 16, 2008 Updated: Jul 27, 2008Great. Extremely smooth and drinkable for such a strong beer. Flavor is excellent and complex. Citrus and grapefruit hops throughout ending in a lightly bitter finish. Very full flavored. Medium bodied. Flavor is not especially bitter.
