DragonsHead (137), Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 9, 2008 Updated: Jun 20, 2009coper color with big hops aroma. Not too much malt for the abv. Bad balance on the hops to malt, but well enjoyed, the hops takeover! perfect for buryin your beak patrick767 (2016), fort wayne, Indiana, USA Mar 8, 2008 bottle at Fort Wayne tasting - Pours copper with a big white head. It has a pleasant grapefruit hop aroma. The flavor, as one should expect with this style, is intensely bitter and continues through to a long, hoppy finish. It’s an excellent beer though not the best double IPA I’ve had. lb4lb (2011), Austin, Texas, USA Mar 8, 2008 This bottle from emacgee
Pours cloudy caramel to maroon colored. Medium lasting beige head. Looks nice. Smell is mildly hoppy but mild for what I expected. Tea and caramel aside from the simcoe hops. Taste is simcoe hops obviously which are musty, dirty, earthy and I can see why they describe simcoe as smelling like cat piss. Alcohol is evident as in every Weyerbacher beer. Apparently they have a hard time hiding the alcohol in their beers... There is nothing citrusy or grapefruity about this beer. It’s the polar opposite of a citrusy, clean beer, as the commercial description states. Decent, but not my favorite. bdigital (585), Ft Wayne, Indiana, USA Mar 2, 2008 Bottle: Courtesy jsquire I believe. Dark copper color with a small cream head. Sweet caramel malts, floral hops and candied sugar all meld together quite well without one domineering over the others. Full bodied, creamy mouth feel. This stuff was fantastic, the sweet malt balances out the floral and piney hops perfectly...some citrus notes are present as well but seem to take a supporting role in this one. Very smooth finish. fro2218 (466), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Feb 27, 2008 Nice floral and citrus aroma. Alot of lime. Rich malty backbone and nice citrus finish. debianlinux (10), North Carolina, USA Feb 27, 2008 Bottle in Asheville, NC. Turpentine hop smash to the face. Love it or hate if I say so myself. Fills the room with the smell of hops. Syrupy consistency, light head and long complex finish. hickey (32), Georgia, USA Feb 27, 2008 Bottle in NYC at New Beer Distributors. Pours a light golden color like many have noted. The first thing i noticed on tasting this phenomenal beer was the very smooth body that it had. just perfect for an IPA.
the simcoe hops are fantastic in it and offer a very distinct and assertive hop aroma. starts clean on the palate and finishes with a very biter end. maybe even a hint of lemon in the flavor? gwfrankpsu (231), McKinleyville, California, USA Feb 27, 2008 Bottle in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania. Golden amber color with a nice foamy head that provided nice lace. Very good aroma, grapefruit, pineapple and a hint of pine. Wonderful balance between the maltiness and the Simcoe hops and the hops do come across at the end. While not a session beer this one is a keeper.
