mwelsh13 (483), Maryland, USA Jan 18, 2008 12 oz pours with an amber color with a good amount of lacing. Grassy and resin in the aroma. Bitterness is high with the same resin and pine flavor. Malt is enough to balance the bitterness. Slight bit of sweetness still aparent in the finish. Good go to Double IPA. santos999 (318), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 17, 2008 I don’t hate hoppy, ok? I just don’t prefer to drink hop bombs. That’s all. So that’s why I aged this puppy. This is from the first batch (June 2006 I believe). The smell is still resiny and citrusy, with pine and floral notes. A nice, sturdy caramel and fruity malt background stabilizes the aroma nicely. Tastes very piney and floral, almost as if I’m drinking perfume. The dark fruit flavors of an aged barleywine are starting to come out, as well as a sweet honey feel, and an almost clove, even pepper spiciness. It is still, after all this time, INSANELY bitter. I’m talking ripping the freaking enamel off your teeth bitter. Heartburn bitter. Bitter as all get out. Which is I guess what you IPA lovers want. Don’t get me wrong I’m enjoying it, much more so than I did fresh, this just isn’t the beer for me. dpjuart (670), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 17, 2008 12 oz. bottle. Pours amber red with beige head, foamy and about a half an inch thick. Big hoppy nose, piney and floral stickiness with a crystal sugar sweetness. Touch of caramel malt backbone with lots of hoppy character, grass and pine, some floral and citrus notes. Nice dose of bitterness towards the end that lingers into the after with a hint of sugary sweetness. The mouthfeel is a touch watery. Great lacing. SirSlarty (68), Reading, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 12, 2008 On tap. I don’t particullary like grassy flavored beers but this really hit the spot. Great with food. Amazing amount of hops. Dogbrick (2816), Columbus, Ohio, USA Jan 11, 2008 Bottle at Winking Lizard. The beer is a slightly cloudy copper color with a medium off-white head that has decent retention. Thin rings of lacing. Nice citrusy hops aroma with notes of toasted grain and pine. Medium-bodied with a pleasant floral hops character. Flavors of malt, tart berries and spices are present as well. The finish is dry and hoppy and leaves a balanced sweetness and bitterness behind. Overall this is a very enjoyable IIPA. hiddenvariable (194), pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 6, 2008 bottle. pours a clear reddish amber with a huge fluffy cream-colored that leaves a ton of thick lacing and never quite goes away. wow! that smell! huge simcoe hops scent, dominated by floral and spruce notes, with a bit of bubblegum and even a bit of spice, dominating but not completely overwhelming a bready malt note. i can’t believe simcoe hops alone gave this much depth to a beer. taste is similar, but a bit more spicy and bready than the smell, with a green vegetable hint to it. big bitter finish, but wonderfully balanced. the bitterness is biting and lasts forever, but the sweetness prevents it from being harsh. coating resinous mouthfeel, with a lot of small bubbles giving a bit of a creamy sensation, and a medium body. some notes of alcohol become present in the end as i drink more, but nothing unpleasant. this is suddenly one of the best double ipas i’ve ever had. just when i started to think i was getting sick of hop monsters, i can’t wait to drink more of this. this has to be weyerbacher’s best offering. UofFkid (108), Orlando, Florida, USA Jan 2, 2008 Bottle. Very overpowering aroma of hops and citrus. Poured an amber color with small head. The sides of the glass was covered in a sticky white head that remained even after the glass was empty. I enjoyed this and wish I had scored a few more bottles. yngwie (4880), Kristiansand, Norway Dec 31, 2007 Bottle, 22oz. (RBNAG 07) At the moment I poured it and inhaled the piney, fruity and malty-sweetish aroma, I knew it deserved it’s score. It is one of those delicious too-much-of-everything beers so few manage to make really good. It has a unclear, golden-orange body with a beige head, and the flavor has the same malty sweetness, borderlining beef-stock that the aroma has. Of course there’s also lots of hops, giving a piney, citrusy and fruity flavor, and those lasts all the way to the next sip. So do the sweetness as well. A full-bodied beer I will be happy to have again. Great thanks to the great trader the epeeist for providing the bottle. (071103)
