sirpsycho (342), Murrysville, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 30, 2007 Bottle. Pours amber with an off white head that lasts. Aroma is hops and grapefruit. Flavor is sugary sweet hop - grapefruit profile. Bitter at the end, not over the top, but you get used to it quickly. tomhenderson (126), Carolinas area, USA Dec 30, 2007 22 oz bomber. Maybe I got a bad bottle. Maybe it was old. I just don’t think it was nearly as good as other double IPAs I’ve had in the 99th Percentile. The aroma was typical (although light), as was the flavor, for a DIPA. I was disappointed not to be overwhelmed by Simcoe, however. I was looking for more grapefruit and pine, but it just wasn’t there. The beer was plenty bitter to offset the malty sweetness, but I was expecting more of the trademark Simcoe qualities. daboskabouter (1470), Fergus, Ontario, Canada Dec 30, 2007 A deep, bright copper colour is topped with a thick, rocky and frothed head. The sides of the glass are coated with remnants of the sticky off-white head. The nose is bright and perfumey with floral citrus notes. There is also plenty of malt in the nose with just a pinch of apple and mango on the tail end. The body is sticky with malt, sweet and full. There is a hint of apple behind an overwhelming hop bitterness that lingers all the way to the (bitter) end. All in all, I thought this IPA or imperial IPA or whatever it is that these American breweries all seem to be brewing, was too up front and not modest or humble at all. Way too in your face. I don’t think that I could drink more than one in a sitting. I liked Hops Infusion, I couldn’t handle this. franksnbeans (265), Columbus, Maryland, USA Dec 29, 2007 Pours pure bronze with a thick head that sticks around permanent lacing. Looks awesome. The smell smacks me like a kinky hot broad and I love it. Spice, pine and POWERFUL fresh hops. More is there but I can’t get over how great the hops smell leaving me to focus on it. Tastes mildly sweet, the perfect amount. Hops are all over the place that are pleasantly bitter and dry. I’m beginning to realize what a great and true IPA tastes like. Not an abundance of flavors, some citrus but delicious as it is. I love this beer and will definitely put it in the starting lineup.
Skeegle (476), Maryland, USA Dec 29, 2007 I really liked this beer. It was very floral with a touch of unripe bananas and pears. It never really struck me as a double IPA, which can seem nice beacsue the alcohol never hits hard at all as it is a subtle and smooth IIPA, but alt imens it doesn’t provide the flavor boom that a proper IIPA like Hercules or Dreadnaught does. Overall a fantastic beer, IPA or IIPA, I will buy this again. ReademNwheat (174), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 29, 2007 From a bottle. Pours the classic IPA amber color with a small white head. First wiff of this brew and you know ur in for some taste bud thrashing hops. Notes of pine and citrus. Taste is similiar to the aroma..piney, citrusy, oily hops. Not overy thick but it has some body to it. Great Double IPA. Great brew to abuse your tastebuds with. RedXIII (127), Powell, Ohio, USA Dec 28, 2007 This IPA has a golden orange color but lacked the cloudy haze I usually associate with great IPAs. The flavor was quite strong: an overload of pine and resin, a hint of grapefruit with a very bitter finish. The beer got better about half way through but it always left a sour taste in my mouth. The aroma, however, was excellent and I give this beer props for complexity. I think cascade hops are my hop of choice. doubleo (1096), San Diego, California, USA Dec 26, 2007 Pours a dark amber color with a thin white head. You can tell this baby is potent just by it’s color. Smells citrusy and piney and grassy. Just like a radical IPA should smell. Love those hops in the flavor. This IPA is bitter but it does have a sweetness to the aftertaste. Palate is pretty standard for me. Not too thick for a big IPA but it does have a little body to it. This baby would be tough to drink too much of. I love a bitter IPA but couldn’t hang with this baby all night.
