tomthompson89 (1460), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Dec 26, 2007 id have to say that was a nice double IPA, pours a good amber orange color, not a ton of head, nose is malty with good pine and some resin. Flavor has similar notes more grapefruit with some decent malt there in the background, well balanced, didn’t notice the hops too much. Well done beer. drseamus (103), Troy, New York, USA Dec 24, 2007 I got this beer to familiarize myself with the simcoe hop better. While it is not bad, I am not a fan overall.
It pours a dark amber reddish color with a nice thick white head. There are visible flecks floating in the beer and it has a generally cloudy character. The aroma is sweet, piney, and decently malty. I like citrusy hops more, but it isn’t bad. This is a pretty bitter beer overall but with a quick blast of intense sweetness. The pine flavor is there, but not as strong as in the aroma. Overall, there isn’t much of a flavor profile. It has good body although I won’t seek this one out again. Simcoe is not among my favorite hops. fiulijn (7150), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy Dec 23, 2007 Cloudy amber color; big thick head; nice lace. Beautiful aroma, hoppy, fruity, with sweet resins. Good body strength, powerful malt, sweet, with an extreme but very good hopping, aromatic, fruity (orange peels), resiny; ends with an impression of rhubarb. And of course the final is very long. Excellent. beerhandy (195), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA Dec 20, 2007 This copper ale with tan foam is a robust beer full of chewy hoppiness and enough malt to almost balance but the scales still tip to the hop side. The Simcoe aroma is incredible loads of grapefruity tangerine piney almost catty .Some malt sweetness is discernible but not prevalent. My favorite from Weyerbacher AskForJenny (627), Ontario, New York, USA Dec 19, 2007 22oz - Golden liquid under nice thick tan head. Citrus on the nose, bitter blast of hops on plalate. This is a hop monster for sure. sinkr (212), Lusby, Maryland, USA Dec 15, 2007 Pours a nice thick head of very tan microbubbles into a tulip glass, giving a mildly opaque amber color to the beer. The aroma is pungent hops and caramel and the taste is mildly bitter with a decent mouthfeel and a hint of syruppy sweetness. This is a wonderful IPA to say the least. fredjaz (108), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA Dec 13, 2007 Nice orange color. Great head, like a cloud sitting on top of your beer, that left a nice lacing throughout. Sweet citrus aroma. nice piney/citrus taste with a big bitter bite in the finish. riversideAK (2648), Shoreline, Washington, USA Dec 13, 2007 Bottle from Secret Santa - Slob. Dark orange with some brown hues. Awesome aroma. Some grapefruit, pineapple, and floral notes. Mostly bitter flavor up front with strong grapefruit and pine with some toasted malt backing and more subtle flavors of tropical fruit in the background. Very resiny with some puckering bitterness in the finish. Lingering dryness has a light spice quality to it as well. I really enjoyed the variety of flavors I got from this one. I would put something like this up against a San Diego IPA any day. I wish it was available out here.
