Fish (439), Kure, Japan Oct 21, 2007 Very delicious 12oz pour. Orange-gold body, small, uneven off-white head. Tiny bubbles. Starts off sweet, apricotty, but as the beer moves down the hatch you feel a little alcohol dry mixed with a piney, only slightly metallic (like iron in blood). A lovely warmth though. I’m glad I bought two of these. dmtroyer (409), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 19, 2007 22oz. I really, really want to try this on draft now. Deep amber, hazy hazy pour with an ever-growing off-white head that lasts most of the glass. Extremely velvety mouthfeel with loads of complex caramel, creamy malt that is well balanced with the simcoe hops and their bold but well-situated presence. Great oily finish that lingers on the bitter receptors. Easily my favorite Weyerbacher brew. CharlesDarwin (1823), Point Judith, Rhode Island, USA Oct 19, 2007 On tap at the Highland Pub in Bellefonte, PA. Aroma is an actually pleasant lemon grass, sweet tea and candied grapefruit rind. Bits of lemon sugar and really no cattiness or urea, as I expected. Pours a reddish amber, with good clarity and a soapy, excellent lacing head. Flavor stands up with a rich, sweet lemon character. Full bodied, but the real flaw is that’s it’s too sweet, for me. Just to much sugar density and not enough nuance, chewiness or character. A fairly straight flying lightly carameled malt body behind a singular hop, but good hop flavor. The bitterness came across as clean and not grating. I would have appreciated a bit more hop utilization on the back end with some sustaining power, but it faded in soft lemony light. Very respectable, though. FrancoisMtl (61), Boisbriand, Quebec, Canada Oct 19, 2007 bottle from zathrus13. While I was pouring this copper colored beer, I could smell the fresh hop aroma! what a nice invitation for waht is following... There must be quite a lot of finishing hops in this bottle. Even though flavors are directed toward hops, there is a good malt support and some sweetness which make a very good balance. This is a great I2PA! Thanks a lot Jeff! hopslovin (180), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Oct 17, 2007 12 oz. bottle. Copper pour with awesome continuous cascade. Thick lasting foamy head made up of medium sized bubbles. Pine, hops, slight citrus, and a hint of carmel on the nose. Biting bitterness in the flavor, also very apparent alcohol presence. No balance in this, all hops. Medium mouthfeel. Bitter finish with warming finish. I like it. hellbilly (1502), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA Oct 15, 2007 Updated: Oct 23, 2007bottle from ucusty. no BB date. pours a rich copper color with a soft head. sweet caramel aroma with pine, citrus and perfume hops. flavor follows suit. resin/pine bitterness is kept in check with caramel malt sweetness. medium to full bodied and creamy. leaves a bitter resinous aftertaste.
super creamy with BUBBLE GUM in the aroma and flavor. Ansset13 (127), Wilmington, North Carolina, USA Oct 13, 2007 Updated: Jun 28, 2008Pours a nice coppery amber, with nice off-white head which leaves some lacing. The nose strongly grapefruit, via the hops with some pine notes as well. Taste follows suit with just the right amount of bitterness. A very good IPA. tytoanderso (1382), St. Louis Park, Minnesota, USA Oct 13, 2007 Bottle via trade with john adam2002. Heavy aroma of rich pine resin. Loads and loads of oily hop aromatics. Some nice sweet malt to balance. Very enticing nose. Pours rich amber/copper with a frothy brown/white head. Creamy hoppiness with some rich sticky malt on the palate. Pine, grass, citrus, and floral notes. Caramel and toffee as well. Nice. Full bodied and creamy. Finishes with a lingering (not harsh) oily, sticky, resinous bitterness. I like the Simcoe!
