antzman (313), Clarksville, Indiana, USA Oct 8, 2007 Pours a copper-red with a full off white head. Excellent aroma’s of citrus, pine. The flavor seemed bitter, but not in a good way. Maybe it’s the simcoe hops, but it was not pleasant at all. No balance. A lot of grapefruit. Medium mouthfeel. I’ll be buying another one of these to try our again, as this one tasted off. Beerlando (2284), Orlando, Florida, USA Oct 3, 2007 Updated: Jun 4, 2008June 2008 re-rate. Whoa, what happenned to this beer? I thought it was very enjoyable, though a bit overratted the first time around. This time, a fresh (2 months old) bottle yielded and astringet, diacetyl laden, butterscotch bomb. Perhaps it was just a bad bottle or batch, but I’m gonna have to knock some major points off for this horrible inconsistency.
Original rating: 7/4/7/4/15=3.7. Fairly clear, bright, reddish orange- amber body. Dense, frothy tan head with yellow hues that settles to a patchy film with a prominent edge. Thick sheets of foamy lacing coat the glass. The aroma shows caramel, buttery toffee, orange hops, and light white fruits. Overall, the scent is very rich and malty, with subdued hops. The flavor shows bright orange hops over a rich, buttery caramel and toffee malts base. The various flavors are a bit muddled, with no particular element standing out from the crowd. The sharp grapefruit hop finish is the pinnacle of this brew, and it lingers for quite some time. Medium-full body that is not at all cloying. Pretty solid IIPA that looks and feels incredible, but disappoints a bit on the nose and the tongue. mribm (419), Hurley, New York, USA Sep 30, 2007 12 oz. bottle. Poured a light copper color with a nice frothy white head. I was surprised that I couldn’t smell a strong hop presence in the nose. It smelled more malty than hoppy. The taste also surprised me as I expected more hops! Where the hell are they hidden? Also, the alcohol was hidden also, which to me is a good thing. Everybody else here appears to have found the hops (they must have found the hops missing from my beer!) While this beer tastes good, I wouldn’t call it an Imperial/Double IPA until they add more hops. Also, it was expensive $9.99 for 4 bottles. I won’t buy this again, mainly due to the price to flavor quotient. jsquire (2086), St. Marys, Ohio, USA Sep 28, 2007 12 oz. bottle. Deep murky orange color with a thick, creamy tan colored head and sticky lace. Strong resiny hop nose with toffee sweetness and a little pepper. Mouthfeel is very creamy, bordering on syrupy. This is really hot on the tongue, with tons of sharp hop resin, pine and candied grapefruit rind. Lots of toffee and caramel sweetness under the hop assault. This is a full flavored beer, and I wish I could get the 12 oz. in Ohio as it is a more appropriate serving size. garthicus (1215), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Sep 27, 2007 Rose colour with zero head and has a delicious nutty-fruit aroma. A HUGE hop flavour, superb! With a port-wine finish, nice indeed. RblWthACoz (963), Brooklyn, New York, USA Sep 27, 2007 Pours a very clouded ruby brown with minimal head that falls fairly fast. Nose is syrupy sweet. Tastes like sticking your nose in a machine that is making candy. Flavor is tangy with a sweet tone and very noticable hop influence. Helloooo, Simcooooe. I am kind of surprised that the flavor is lighter than I have come to expect from in my face DIPAs. It is a full flavor, but more of a slow dance than a throw down. Feel is smooth, but has a thicker character to it. Extremely drinkable. Might be the easiest drinking DIPA I have had to date. Well worth trying.
DannyP (29), Connecticut, USA Sep 25, 2007 Updated: Jan 5, 2008Excellent beer. Probably my favorite IPA so far. Nice floral hop aroma
Pours a golden amber color with a slightly amber color smallish head. As I tend to feel about the Weyerbacher brews, the mouthfeel is perfect. wickedpete (625), Lexington Park, Maryland, USA Sep 23, 2007 Updated: Dec 27, 2007Strong hop aroma of course. Gorgeous clear copper color with a very tall white head that leaves plenty of lacing. The flavor is very bitter but has a well balanced amount of sweet maltiness. A little sticky in the palate but overall very enjoyable.
