COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Fast on the heels of our fantasticly reformulated Hops Infusion, our brewers have picked up the gauntlet and brewed a Double IPA using exclusively Simcoe(R) Hops! This west coast Hops was created in 2000 by Select Botanicals, Inc. and carries a fantastic flavor profile abounding with citrusy-grapefruit, piney, resiny notes that pushes this Double IPA over the top. 9.0% ABV in the brew gives it a nice malt foundation as well. Draft and bottles, 12 oz. in PA, 22 oz. out of state (as we have no 6-packs),

BeebopToledo (22) - - JUN 22, 2012
Poured from 1 pint 9oz bottle with cork. Color is a cloudy brown/amber. head is a barely-there off-white color. aroma is more of malt than of hops, sort of a weak hop aroma out of the gate--perhaps by using a bittering (and not aroma) hop, they arrived at that. 9% ABV makes this brew taste a bit boozey and warming. Flavors are almost cloying, in my opinion, but probably need to be to try and balance such a high alcohol content. Otherwise, flavors are excellent. Interesting to taste a beer that isolates one hop variety. A good beer in it’s own right, but perhaps too one-dimensional. Won’t buy another, but an interesting beer if you want to know what a single hop flavor represents. Interesting enough that I might try to experiment with hopping my own homebrew with just one hop to experience it.

dhatton (135) - Mendham, New Jersey, USA - MAY 2, 2015
Pours a murky dark orange with limited white head, some sedimentation from bottle settled at bottom of glass. Resinous nose, fresh pine and grass with a hint of caramel sweetness. More malt taste than I expected, but hop flavors - moderate citrus, floral and pepper notes - come through rather nicely. Heavy mouthfeel with a syrupy consistency. Exudes booziness as it warms.

Bottle from Bruisin’ Ales. Pleasant tropical fruit aroma with a little caramel. Taste of raisin and brandy with citrus and boozy notes. Sticky sweet mouthfeel. Average double ipa.

Fratto (2803) - Arlington, Texas, USA - APR 5, 2015
Bottle shared at the KoBB meeting. Light pour with a white head. Aroma is oranges and pine. Taste is still more orange, maybe the grapefruit, caramel, light toast, and heat.

libertine (271) - rochester hills, Michigan, USA - MAR 31, 2015
pours a hazy orange amber with a nice white head. Aroma of tangerines, red grapefruit, caramel malt, and resin. Flavor is fantastic. Well balanced. Orange, Grapefruit, resin, and sweet. Full bodied. Oily texture and a little sticky on the lips. Alcohol is well hidden and this is so drinkable that it is real dangerous at 9%. Finishes astringently bitter. This is real good.

czar (5257) - Québec, Quebec, CANADA - MAR 30, 2015
pours unclear bright golden orange with a small reviving off-white cap, some lacing. spicy and piney melons, mangoes, minty citrus, danky, some sweetness - honey, grassy leafiness and lots of minty-like plants/herbs, earthy; doughy fruity maltiness layered in caramel, clean yeast. light carbonation, medium body - oily thick; balanced grassy-piney-citrusy finish. good balance and drinkability. tad old-school but nice with some juicy features.

Poured 12 Oz bottle, orange to red in color no head...taste of grapefruit and resinous hops with a slight alcohol burn. Respectable DIPA, but not great, would drink again but wouldn’t go out of my way to find it

Pours a clear orange/gold color. Has some lacing, but no real head retention. Smells hoppy and slightly floral. Tastes very hoppy, but not too bitter. An excellent beer and one that I would seek out in the future.

12 oz bottle, 02/12/15 bottling date. Pours a coppery amber with a ton of coarse suspended particles. Grapefruit and orange citrus aroma with a little berry. Citrus hoppy flavor, some herbal flavor, with a bit of sweetness and a nice bitterness.

Bottle. The pour is vibrant orange. The aroma is big bold hops. The taste is a little overly bitter. Had high hopes based on the aroma, but taste was lacking. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
