Fast on the heels of our fantasticly reformulated Hops Infusion, our brewers have picked up the gauntlet and brewed a Double IPA using exclusively Simcoe(R) Hops! This west coast Hops was created in 2000 by Select Botanicals, Inc. and carries a fantastic flavor profile abounding with citrusy-grapefruit, piney, resiny notes that pushes this Double IPA over the top. 9.0% ABV in the brew gives it a nice malt foundation as well. Draft and bottles, 12 oz. in PA, 22 oz. out of state (as we have no 6-packs),

22 oz. bottle. Pours a clear, deep copper/amber with a HUGE khaki head. An incredibly piney, resiny aroma. Lots of grapefruits and orange rinds. Peaches and cream become apparent as it warms. Very one-sided towards the hops, but SO mouth-watering. Full enough to go down creamy and smooth, but there’s still plenty of tingle for the tongue. Pretty grainy and earthy actually. Starts with some cream and caramel. A super-dry, bitter finish that lingers. Alcohol is hidden well. The best yet from Weyerbacher.

Served within a week of the best by date. Served from 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. Aroma is hoppy with notes primarily of resin and floral. One and a half finger slightly off white head dissipated fairly quick. Leaves plenty of lacing. Beer is a hazy orange amber color. Taste is medium bitter with resin, floral and citrus notes. Lightly sweet finish with a lingering bitterness. Light to medium bodied beer with a fairly thin texture and average carbonation. Overall decent, enjoyable IPA. Simcoe hops are not my favorite variety of hops.

Aroma is hoppy, pine and floral dominate with a tropical fruit as well. Appearance is almost orange, white head, strange. Taste is delicious, pineapple with pine, a malt presence but that’s forgivable. Mouthfeel is somewhat crisp, yet decently thick for the style. Overall, it’s very good despite the weird color.

Aromat: grejpfruty, pomarańcze, podszyte igłami, tostami, trawą. W tle karmel, ciastka, alkohol. Początkowo przyjemny, ostatecznie nie powala.

Barwa; pomarańczowa, głęboka, wyraźnie zmętniona, z wyraźnymi drobinkami chmielu. Piana w kolorze ecru, drobno pęcherzykowa, umiarkowanej wielkości i podobni trwała.

Krągła pełnia, umiarkowane wysycenie i wyraźnie alkoholowy finisz. Zdecydowanie liczyłem na więcej.

Copper color with a hop aroma that is not over powering. Pours with a nice off white head. Nice hoppy flavor, but not too bitter. It has a good amount of malt to balance out the taste. I did notice things floating around in the beer, almost like it had froze, but I do not notice any off flavors, nor did I notice any sediment in the bottom, so I do not believe this is the unfiltered version. It certainly does not taste like a 9% alcohol beer.

Date: May 2, 2015... Glassware: Maudite snifter... Occasion: to a promotion!... Appearance: sediment-laden, casually carbonated opaque orange-brown body; thick, rocky off-white head forms craters and smears In the backdrop--an intimidating, active presence... Aroma: powerful citrus, with the signature simcoe damp, cool basement aroma; not much in the way of malts... Palate: heavy, puckerish body; dense and pulpy; extremely long, resonating finish of warmth and strength--a beer to reckon with...Taste: robust yet respectful citrus; large pinecone and orange peel mesh with late hints of alcohol to produce a solid, full-flavored experience; astringency late dampens the flowery aroma and the experience a bit...Overall: a beer monstrously effective at what it intends to do--overpower with its West Coast hops hailstorm; not exactly balanced, and not exactly a problem--but as Weyerbachers go, a fitting beer in their portfolio...

Pretty solid IPA. Lots of citrus and good malt backbone. Some pine. Quite the bitter finish. Brown amber pour with decent head and lacing. Very hoppy. Bottle from Glen’s.
