Commercial Description:
Fast on the heels of our fantasticly reformulated Hops Infusion, our brewers have picked up the gauntlet and brewed a Double IPA using exclusively Simcoe(R) Hops! This west coast Hops was created in 2000 by Select Botanicals, Inc. and carries a fantastic flavor profile abounding with citrusy-grapefruit, piney, resiny notes that pushes this Double IPA over the top. 9.0% ABV in the brew gives it a nice malt foundation as well. Draft and bottles, 12 oz. in PA, 22 oz. out of state (as we have no 6-packs),

Finally rated a beer I’ve had a dozen times. Cloudy copper pour, medium white head. Aroma is sweet and malty, orange and just lots of sweetness. Flavor is the same big malty punch of sweet caramel, some grapefruit, orange, and a hint of pine. Just too damn sweet and malty though for my liking, I really just want to taste straight hop juice.

Pours a hazy orangish amber with a small cream-colored head which left a little bit of bubbly swirl on the top. Lacing is extremely good. Smell is big piney resin hop oils with a big of orange and grapefruit citrus aroma as well. Smells a little sweeter than most IPAs with a nice bready malt aroma. Pine is present in the taste as well, but I get a little more citrus in the taste with grapefruit, oranges, and lemons. The sweetness is also there in the taste with a bit of malt and candy tastes. Very well balanced taste. Mouthfeel is thick, creamy and oozing with hop oils. Flavors coat the mouth and cling for quite a while. I really like this IPA and the sweetness that you don’t necessarily see in some DIPAs. It’s pretty big but definitely drinkable.

12 oz bottle. Aroma of grapefruit citrus. Strong aroma. Reddish amber color with a decent beige head. Medium body with creamy carbonation. Flavor is a lot of grapefruit hop, but there is detectable caramel sweetness. The finish is more piney than grapefruit, and it is not dry. It’s truly balanced. That’s so rare. This is an exceptionally tasty ale.

On tap at Bodega, 16oz, 5/1/08; made up for the disappointment of missing Lake Erie Monster at the Real Ale Minifest.

Great aroma of sweet citrus and piney hops. Sweet malty start that quickly switches to strong pine hops. Bitter finish with some alcohol present and a pretty thick body. Definitely a good beer for my hundredth rating.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a slightly hazy amber color with a yellow beige creamy head leaving a thick lace. The aroma is huge fruit and pine along with moderately sweet caramel. The flavor is big pine and grapefruit with a hint of peach. There is a good amount of caramel malt sweetness. The finish is bitter. Alcohol is present, but not distracting. Thick body.
