Commercial Description:
Fast on the heels of our fantasticly reformulated Hops Infusion, our brewers have picked up the gauntlet and brewed a Double IPA using exclusively Simcoe(R) Hops! This west coast Hops was created in 2000 by Select Botanicals, Inc. and carries a fantastic flavor profile abounding with citrusy-grapefruit, piney, resiny notes that pushes this Double IPA over the top. 9.0% ABV in the brew gives it a nice malt foundation as well. Draft and bottles, 12 oz. in PA, 22 oz. out of state (as we have no 6-packs),

On tap at Buckeye Beer Engine. Cloudy deep amber pour with a medium off-white head. Aromas of earthy and citrusy hops and feet. Nice hop and malt balance in the flavor with a solid bitter finish.

Attractive bronze appearance with a large, rocky, off white head and nice lacing. Pine infused aroma with a spicy edge. Surprizingly smooth, creamy, full bodied palate. Strong alcohol presence, but no burning sensation. Early hints of sweetness receded as it sat awhile and then developed a more refined bitterness. Long lasting, lip smacking finish. Very enjoyable.

It’s spring. Playoffs are on every night. And I get this bomber brought back to me from Asheville. Super hops. Super pine. I tried to sneak it by my wife, but she caught me.

Ah yeah. This one gets high marks for setting as well as the beer itself. After a long, long weekend of working on the house the first sip of this beer was like heaven. The hops were perfect for the heat and sweatiness entailed in this weekend. Piney and sweet aroma. Bitter upfront, in the middle, and on the backside. Now I will recognize simcoe wherever I go. Very smooth on the backside with no hints of alcohol and a slight sweetness that you expect from a double IPA. Thanks guys.

From a 22oz Bottle. Pours a deep, honey amber color with a marvelous layer of thick, fine bubbled, off-white head. Well-sustaining, with a slight haze to the body. Fruity aroma of cherry gumdrops create an interesting oxidized sherry incense with some varnishy characters that aren’t the most pleasant. Some light grapefruit and red pine hop aromas peak through, but its the fruity, dare I say off-aromas that dominate. Full bodied, lightly carbonated mouthfeel. Loads of werther’s original butterscotch toffee and buttered movie popcorn instantly coat the palate, spiced with hints of spruce needles. Besides the obvious diacetyl affliction that seems to have consumed my bottle, I’m also finding the body to be rather under-attenuated and chewy for my preference in this style. A rather one-dimensional pine resin hop character whose bitterness is downplayed by the caramel sweetness and fruity characters. Sadly disappointing, but perhaps worth revisiting at a later date.

Attractive medium amber hue with a large, creamy light tan head. The aroma is explosive with bitter, yet smooth, hop tones of peaches. Malty hints of caramel and dark bread follow behind along with an almost sweaty yeast tone (seems to work in this case, though rather odd…). Significantly sweet for an IIPA with lots of caramel malt and very smooth throughout with low acidity. The finish is clean and very fruity (peaches and apricots) with a not-quite-bracing bitterness. Really, with as much malt presence as is here, it’s difficult for this to be over-the-top bitter. The body was a little thinner than I was expecting, though still creamy and complimented by a soft carbonation.

22oz - thanks clarkVV - Aroma is simcoe plain and simple. Citrus, pine, and then the carmel shows up. Pours hazy light brown with huge solid head that slowly fades to leave tone of sticky lacing. Flavor matches aroma. Palate is creamy and smooth. I like it a lot.

12oz bottle. Murky amber-orange color. Nice frothy head. Fresh citrus aroma. Big, chewy, and intensely hoppy, with a sticky sweet aftertaste. A lot of Earthy hop character. A great Double IPA.
