Commercial Description:
Fast on the heels of our fantasticly reformulated Hops Infusion, our brewers have picked up the gauntlet and brewed a Double IPA using exclusively Simcoe(R) Hops! This west coast Hops was created in 2000 by Select Botanicals, Inc. and carries a fantastic flavor profile abounding with citrusy-grapefruit, piney, resiny notes that pushes this Double IPA over the top. 9.0% ABV in the brew gives it a nice malt foundation as well. Draft and bottles, 12 oz. in PA, 22 oz. out of state (as we have no 6-packs),

Bottle. Nose is starchy, dry, arid, spicy hops. Flavor is somewhat caustic, coarse, fruity, sticky, thick, sweet and fuesal (just slightly). Rich, fizzy, pretty good overall. Almost has some saison qualities.

Man am I in need of a Hop Bomb today - and this most certainly fits the bill. From the 12 oz. bottle this pours a deep orange body with a tall sustained head that evenly laces the glass. The caramelly malts are detectable in the aroma, but it’s mainly a serious hop bitterness - pine, grapefruit, lemon & grapefruit zest, earth... Nice. In the flavor there’s a sturdy backbone of malt, caramel & orchard fruit, that struggles to support the onslaught of Simcoe bitterness, a bite that lasts long into the finish. Very nice.

Bottle ala Matt. Bright dark amber color with a moderate off-white head and some lacing. Aromas of green tomatoes and mild pine. A fresh hop aroma evident and perhaps too much for this malt lover. Ok, Hops, HOps, HOPs and more HOPS in the flavor. Grapefruit salad. for me. Some mild malt sweetness early, but still to quick to be gobbled up by the hops. Hopshead rejoice. I didn’t seem to find the balance in this one that others found perhaps to many dubbels have shifted my malt balance and tasted. I’ll have to find another one of these.

Bottled, LCRBM. Aomra with lots of hops, fruity and malty. Orange/yellow color, beige head, good lace. Sweet start, malty, loads of bitter hops in the flavor as well. Sticky mouthfeel.

RBSG 2006 - DC Grand Tasting Lineup Amber, nice head and light lacing. Nose of sticky oily hops, sweet and floral. The flavor is sweet, rich body and a nice creamy mouthfeel. The finish is tasty, a nice balanced and grapefruit rich mouthfeel. Nice.

Bottle, at Kookfest, September 2006. Hazy, dark amber colour. I must be developing a resistance to big US IPAs because I’m finding "not as extreme as I expected" appearing in my notes with increasing regularity. And I wrote those words for this beer. Now, I’m not saying it isn’t big and hoppy, because it is. And the grapefruit and pine is there. But the bitterness was not over the top and it drunk very smoothly for me. If anything, I found it a little sweet. But I enjoyed it very much.

Bottle. Poured a hazy brown color with an average frothy off-white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Heavy complex spicy citrus aroma. Medium body with a slick texture and soft carbonation. Heavy citrus bitter flavor with a solid bitter finish that was long lasting. This is a standout brew.

Bottle. Thanks to Alex (fiulijn) for sharing this one. Pours a Hazy amber/orange color with a longlasting off-white head. Malty and very hoppy pine needles aroma. Also has some citrus hints. Sweet malty andry bitter flavor with lots of pine needles and citrus. Sweet malty finish with a long bitter aftertaste.
