The beer is a slightly cloudy copper color with a medium off-white head that has decent retention. Thin rings of lacing. Nice citrusy hops aroma with notes of toasted grain and pine. Medium-bodied with a pleasant floral hops character. Flavors of malt, tart berries and spices are present as well. The finish is dry and hoppy and leaves a balanced sweetness and bitterness behind. Overall this is a very enjoyable IIPA. shadey (1501), Rochester, New York, USA

Plenty of malt in there thought that makes this very solid in the aroma department. The flavor is different, must be the simcoe. Delicious chewy fruity hops. Very nice. kmeves (1081), Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, USA

Pours a copper amber body with a frothy off-white head and nice lacing. Aroma is moderately sweet with pine, grapefruit, peach and a hint of caramel. Flavor is very piney, grapefruit, herbal, peach, caramel, some chocolate and a bit of alcohol. Chewy texture, medium-full body. This is beer heaven to me. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 9, 2006 22 oz bomber found at Oak tree liquors in S. Plainfield for $4.50 each. Pours a beautiful clear medium amber with nice lively carbonation and a mountainous rocky off white head and kick-ass lace. Aroma is obviously simcoe- which means lots of citrus and grapefruit, resin, light pine, and I guess Simcoe just has a distinct solvent like character to me- since many of my simcoe homebrews have the same grapefruit-solvent llike quality. First sip is very intense. Lots of thick sweet dark crystal malts and a tangy hop flavor upfront. In the middle, it becomes resiny and more tangy grapefruit is present. Sticky piney and very bitter in the end, but not overly harsh. Alcohol isnt noticed really, but somehow with the thickness of this brew, somehow you know it is there. Aftertaste is slightly solvent-like and soapy, and leaves a thick coating of hop juice on the palate and gets slightly metallic in the end. This stuff kicks ass. I was very surprised by how good this was. DaSilky1 (2033), San Diego, California, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 18, 2009 pours a clear amber, frothy off-white head atop with concentrations around the edges. That glorious simcoe nose, honeydew and hop crystals, chamomile, and lime zest. What a fucking aroma hop, man! Bitter, dry, spicy, earthy...What a fucking flavoring hop, man!...What a fucking bittering hop, man!. The malts behind are balancing, not syrupy or cumbersome in any way, shape, or form. This beer is thicker and significantly more malty than Mikellars regular simcoe IPA, but this is 9% alcohol...and i think, even with the extra malty boost, the simcoe characteristics still are showcased with great craftsmanship..grapefruit, spicey, floral....maybe a bit of a musty basement character at times, but not enough to distract. Can you even go wrong with simcoe? Can you? I brewed an all simcoe IPA 2 weeks ago, im hella excited.... Nate (2575), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA

Aroma is fruity with a grassy metallic tang reminiscent of a European strong lager. Sweet alcoholic notes and malty nose. Murky amber body with off-white creamy lacing head. Heavy watery body, almost chewy, with medium carbonation. Starts very malty with nice sweetness. Grassy undertones. A strong but surprisingly balanced fruity hoppy bitterness takes over and balances nicely with the alcoholic sweet malt. Some warming. AFter is bitter but pleasantly sweet with a bit of chalkiness. fly (1334), austin, Tejas, USA

A grand hoppy beast, but if the name didn’t already imply that then you’re tromping in territory perhaps you shouldn’t. The aroma jumped to greet my nearly disabled nostrils just as I opened it. As resinous as it is, didn’t find the burn that some IIPAs tend to have. And as with so many of the beers I’ve enjoyed through trade I wonder if I’ll ever manage to have another ... *sigh*

Herbal, citrusy nose with tons of grapefruit and juniper. Additional notes of black pepper and caramel. Hopped to "high heaven" with those Simcoe’s, but a hefty malt backbone keeps the flavor within spitting distance of balance... ok, throwing distance. Big caramel; bigger grapefruit and pine. Full-bodied and creamy with medium carbonation. Finishes bitter and just a touch dry. World class brew!
