3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 tbookman (618) - Ephrata, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 27, 2006
Medium orange color - very clear and foamy. Aroma of hops, citrus and alcohol. Body is a bit earthy, with strong malt flavors that never quite meshes with the hops in quite the right way. Finish is dry and a bit sweet. The Double Simcoe is a better big IPA.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20 Slacks (615) - Bolton, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 10, 2006
650ml Bottle @ Decemberfest 2006; thanks to HogTownHarry: Pours cloudy, pumpkin coloured, with a good sized foam head. Strong malts in the aroma with definite floral hops. Still, I can’t say I expected what was to come. That first touch on the tongue was caramel, and my notes then remark "HOP!!!" to explain what came next. 109 IBU is right, this is hop monster, but a very flavourful one at that. Surprisingly well balanced, as much as could be expected, with definite notable alcohol. Good stuff.
3.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 jeffin7 (610) - Silver Spring, Maryland, USA - SEP 21, 2006
Pours hazy orange with a huge frothy head that fades very slowly and leaves a coating of lace on every bit it touches. Aroma is of apricots, peach, pineapple, mild hard caramel. When cold the flavor has a hard bitter wood dominate flavor that is a bit odd. As the beer warms up the hard woodiness transitions into an extremely bitter earthy, citric, peachy hoppiness mixed with some sticky sweet malts. This makes you think about bitterness in new ways, it gives it a heavy weight on the tongue. Full body, smooth almost sticky palate.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 chimplechamp (601) - Oslo, NORWAY - FEB 19, 2007
bottle- pours pale rusty copper, with some sentiment with a nice sized head off white and brilliant lacing. smells floral, citrus hops almost sting the nose. whew. i can tell this is going to be really flavorful. tastes citrussy, piney, lots of fruit. juicey almost. sweet malt evens out this hoppy beast. i think it might be too sweet and it ends up tasting like grapefruit juice but more syrupy. very good. cheers pops!
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Thaichile (599) - 10aFly, New Jersey, USA - APR 16, 2007
Bottle. Pours a thick, brownish red color with an off-white head. Nose is full of hops. Very viscous, with tons of hops and malts getting into a little skirmish, but the hops are stronger. Some caramelized sweetness camoflauges the alcohol. Muddy mouthfeel became tedious as you continued through the brew. One glass is more than enough.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 SQNfan (591) - Wheaton, Illinois, USA - JUL 7, 2008
12 oz. bonus bottle from JB175. This poured cloudy and deep amber in color with some copper running through and a minimal head. The aromas were of burnt caramel, raisin, plum and a slight amount of citrus and spiciness. In the mouth it was full-bodied and concentrated with dark fruit and dark caramel flavors. The finish is long and lingering but does show some alcohol. This is an unctous beer that is almost too much.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Firemoose15 (567) - Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 14, 2006
Bottle. Aroma hoppy and sweet caramel. Poured a deep amber with tan pillowy head. Flavor was citric and sweet with a nice bite to it Palate was slick and oily long finishing, also a nice bit of alcohol behind it but then again read the damn label. I liked it, some will not I guess. I think this is one for aging maybe.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 11/20 Optigon (562) - Bloomington, Indiana, USA - APR 4, 2008
Pours cloudy, orange/brown, with a thin, fine, white head. Aroma is strongly hoppy with an almost nutty or olive quality to it. Some fruitiness there. Full mouth feel with a strong bitterness. Almost a salty quality. It’s almost like eating an acorn. A bit much.
3.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 JJClark (550) - Roscoe, Illinois, USA - AUG 26, 2006
Bottle from trde with FrumptyDumpty. Thanks Ryan! Pours a light copper color with a nice white head that leaves behind some decent lacing. Aroma of citrus and hops. Taste of hops and malt with a slightly bitter pleasently smooth finish. This is a big complex brew that is sure to satisfy any hop head.
