Bottle. Pours a clear dark amber color with a moderate white head. Nose is quite smokey with just a hint of malt character poking through underneath. Taste has a good deal of smoke coming through and just a hint of caramel sweetness. Very easy drink.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Braudog (5035) - Hampton, Virginia, USA - APR 21, 2013
Bottle. Brown and still. Looks like an American brown ale of any other ilk. The aroma is muted as well. There is a nicely interwoven and subtle woodsy smokiness interlaced in what otherwise might be classified a roasted malty brew. Good for the fireside, indeed. (#4994, 4/21/2013)
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Lubiere (8248) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 9, 2013
A hazed brown ale with a thick brown head. In aroma, sweet berry malt with faint smoked notes. In mouth, a good vinous malt with light peated notes, licorice, a bit thin, but good.

Poured from a bottle into ad brandy snifter. Pours a lighter brown, Ruby color with a beige head of foam. The Aroma is very malt forward with just a hint at some smoke character. No real bacon or barbeque sauce taste. Smoky notes are very subtle in this beer. Overall, it makes for a nice sipper.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 spittye (2) - - OCT 1, 2012 does not count
The smoke is nice in this beer. Definitely not overdone. It add a unique, but welcome flavor note to a good brown ale. I have a feeling this one was released in Jan. 2012, so the smoke may have lessened over the past 10 months.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Huhzubendah (1980) - Washington DC, USA - AUG 4, 2012
Hazy brown in color, with a few orange tinges when held to the light. The beer has a half inch of head that generates a fair amount of lacing. the aroma is of smoke and malt. This is not nearly as smoky as the Aecht Schlenkerla brews from Bamberg, but has a decent amount of smoke nonetheless. The flavor is straightforward, with a present but not overpowering smokiness, as well as a slightly sweet, toasted malt characteristic. The feel is medium bodied, with a good carbonation level. A very drinkable and enjoyable smoked beer. Though not my favorite of this ilk, I enjoy drinking this every so often.
