4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Panzerfaust (462) - Hanga Roa, Easter Island, CHILE - FEB 1, 2012
330 ml bottle from El Irlandés This Imperial Stout appears in the glass with a very dark brown/mahogany color and a medium light brown creamy head. Aroma is killer, malty, roasted, showing notes of espresso, mocha, cocoa, cookies and strong chocolate. Some subtle alcoholic hints, wood and vanilla are also discernible. Taste is sweet, assertive but not overpowering which is in my mind a good thing. Milk chocolate, truffles, brown sugar, wood and vanilla. Simple, solid and well-focused Stout taste. Almost full bodied, alcohol is well disguised. Toasty aftertaste, finish is smoewhat dry and short. Reminds me a little of Coopers Best Extra Stout and... Mahina Stout from Easter Island but slightly more alcoholic and flavorful than both. I think it’s closer to Samuel Smith’s Imperial Stout than the supermassive Impy’s that everyone is brewing nowadays. Great!

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 MBrausen (63) - Minnesota, USA - JAN 31, 2012
Poured from a bottle into a CBS snifter.
A. Pours a super dark black, thin mocha head that fades quickly to a thin ring.
S. Smells of milk chocolate, very mild toffeee, and very minimal mint.
T. Tastes of tons of mil;k chocolate, but covered slightly by the toffeee and licorice to have a nice rounded flavor that isn’t overwhelming.
M. Medium bodied, a little thin and water, medium carbonation.
O. A good beer. Could have it anytime and easily a few. Not something special I would go dreaming over, but a solid beer.
4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 rlaw (707) - Alabama, USA - JAN 30, 2012
Bottle. Pours black with a thin but persistent dark tan head. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, some booze. First hit in the flavor is the bourbon -- it’s big. But it melts away into a host of other elements: milk and bitter chocolate, coffee, nice bit of vanilla/oak, some fruit (fig and cherry?). Medium bitterness, not very sweet. Flavors are well-balanced. Mouthfeel is thick but not overly heavy.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 zvikar (1204) - Tel Aviv, ISRAEL - JAN 29, 2012

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 DSG (2631) - Tel Aviv, ISRAEL - JAN 20, 2012
Bottle sample at a tasting at Dagan’s place. Thanks zvikar. Black-colored with a light brown head. Aroma of dark chocolate, some coffee notes, light woody hints and a bit of alcohol. Sweet malty flavor with some chocolate, light fruitiness and notes of wood. Medium to full-bodied. Decent.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 alcaponejunior (83) - Missouri, USA - JAN 13, 2012
Black as night with a small light brown head, moderate sheets of lace as you drink it. Plenty of oak on the nose, dark roasty notes, coffee and dark chocolate. Taste is nice, sweet and roasty with more subtle woodiness, plenty of coffee and bitter dark chocolate, well balanced bitterness from the dark malts. Body is very full, really nice. A rather tasty and quite easy to drink RIS, definitely worth a try.
4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 phredrik (707) - Aalborg, DENMARK - JAN 10, 2012
Bottle in my bed whilst wearing only undies. Good times. Pours black with some red tinges in the sides, the head dissipated quickly. Aroma is very nice. Immediately cocoa beans and vanilla, which are the most dominant aromas. Also creamy fudge, oak, bourbon, a spot on aroma of caramelized figs (love it!), cappuccino, brownie, a hint of alcohol, which gives a nice contrast to the sweet aromas, hints of coffee, tar and hazelnuts. DAMN! Taste implements a lot of the same characteristics, but is more ashy than the aroma suggests. More coffee and roast, a hint of tobacco. The barrel aging gives it only a hint of oak and bourbon, but together with the base beer, a lovely vanilla note is brought to life that is ever so lovely. The body is light for a barrel aged imperial stout, which prevents it from ever becoming cloying. This is just what I want to drink right now, lovely beer indeed!
