Commercial Description:
This is an incredibly intriguing ale is made by aging our Old Heathen Imperial Stout in oak barrels that were used for making fine Kentucky bourbon! The result is an extraordinary, dark, and mysterious stout whose very essence has been enhanced. The aroma is filled with vanilla, cocoa, and roasted coffee beans. This silky-smooth brew has notes of oak, whiskey, roasted barley and vanilla that meld together on the tongue to create an incredible sensation. Heresy is released in February.

Sampled at the Bockyhorsey tasting, courtesy of rustychiles. Deep black color pour with a creamy tan head. Aroma of roasted malt and barley, coffee, and just a hint of vanilla and wood. Flavor is much the same, starting sweet with a roasty, slightly bitter finish. Good stuff!

22oz bomber thanks to Jah Noth. Pours dark brown, with a non existent head, almost an oily surface. Aromas of roasted malt, bourbon, some coffee, and a hint of vanilla. Flavors are similar, sweet malts up front with a smooth whiskey finish. Although the palate is a little thin, this is a very smooth beer that is going down easy. Thanks again Dan.

Bottle, sale at Sam’s, though this is a good deal anyway. More roasty barley and coffee notes than expected, though in a good way. The vanilla/oak flavors aren’t overwhelming, but they’re definitely there. This is a very solid and drinkable Impy Stout, and for better or worse, it’s not overwhelmed by the oak aging. Especially worth $2.99.

Poured a gloopy black with a large, creamy brown head with lots of falling bubbles. Is there anything sexier than a great pour of an Imperial Stout? Aroma was oak and whisky, but some nice chocolate and roasted coffee if you dig around. Hoppy bitterness up front, then finishes smooth and silky with a long finish.

vintage 2005. poured black with a half inch of creamy head that settled somewhat quickly. nose is smooth oaky up front with notes of chocolate and vanilla behind it. taste is right on with the self description... oak, whiskey, vanilla, but not overpowering. wish this one had more alcohol to it body to it. also not as smoothed out and sweet as i expected a 4yr old to be.
