Very smooth flavor with a hint of almost vanilla over top of the very "roasty" espresso bean flavor. Nose is mild oaky bourbon, roasted malt and alcohol. Taste is vanilla, coffee, oak, a touch of booze and a bitter chocolate/hoppy finish. Medium, semi-creamy mouth feel. I enjoyed this one – good IS. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 10, 2008 Black with small beige head. Aroma of strong smoky oat/vanilla component backed by chocolate, roast, and faintly sweet fruits. I like the nose! Flavor is odd and a little watery; it’s composed mainly of sweet malts, dark chocolate, and what is probably the bourbon. IThe palate seems a little weak. Overall though, this is a quality beer.
