Commercial Description:
This is an incredibly intriguing ale is made by aging our Old Heathen Imperial Stout in oak barrels that were used for making fine Kentucky bourbon! The result is an extraordinary, dark, and mysterious stout whose very essence has been enhanced. The aroma is filled with vanilla, cocoa, and roasted coffee beans. This silky-smooth brew has notes of oak, whiskey, roasted barley and vanilla that meld together on the tongue to create an incredible sensation. Heresy is released in February.

Bottle from BR007. Pours a pitch black with a nice tan head. Has a medium/heavy mouthfeel. Smells like chocolate with a side of chocolate. Tastes like a creamy stout that has been smoothed with aging in oak. Has a subtle oak flavor with mostly chocolate upfront and a nice roasty aftertaste. This is a very tasty brew.

Beautiful aroma. typical roastiness observed in most stouts, with a nice smell of bourbon and a hint of vanilla. The appearance is also beautiful; jet balck, with a medium brown foam head. The flavor is sweet like a stout, some notes of the oak in it. No taste of the bourbon, surprisingly enough. Persistent roasty flavor left on the palate. Thick mouthfeel. Excellent stout.

It’s got a cloying sweet smell, alcohol, raisins, chocolate milkshake, palate starts out with whiskey, coffee, chocolate, mellows as you sip it. This is rich decadent complex stuff. The look is very very dark with red highlights. This is one fine beer. By accident this happened to be my 666th rating...

Pint bottle. Black-brown with a lovely small brown head that recedes to a thick ring. Aroma of roast, chocolate, and maybe even some vanilla. Not as strong as you’d think it’d be, though. The flavour is very chocolatey, with oak following along behind, and mocha, vanilla, and roast bringing up the rear. Some hops in the finish. Alcohol is very well hidden; you’d never know this was such a strong beer. Incredibly silky smooth and full. Very nice.

This is a great barrel aged Stout that isn’t overwhelmed by the flavors of the barrel! Slight roasted aroma, sweet, boozy, malty and coffee flavor low carbonation and a great slick mouth feel! Definitely a winner!

Near black colour, flat and oily-looking. Beefy, oily aroma like Indonesian soy sauce. Soft and sweet with light bourbon nuances. Dark chocolate, minerals, leaves and muscovado sugars on the palate.

22 oz bomber purchased at Oak Tree. Pours a solid pitch black with a large tight foamy beige head. Aroma of bourbon, vanillla, roasted malts, slight oak and bitter chocolate. Medium bodied that is slightly creamy but finishes with a good amount of alcohol warming even though this is only 8.2% alcohol. Flavor of bourbon, roasted malts, vanilla, and slight coffee. This beer has a long after taste that mellows out and is very nice. I’m glad this one is in a 22oz bottle because it seems to be growing on me the longer I sip it.
