blklab2007 (932), Connecticut, USA Mar 16, 2008 Updated: Aug 11, 200922 oz bottle poured into a snifter has a nice thick one finger head of dark tan. the beer itself is a dark black with lighter carbonation but looks in the glass quite nice. aroma has dark chocolate, malt, light hops, and has a little wood character. mouth feel is so thick and delightful with lighter carbonation and a nice coating on the tongue. flavor is dark bakers chocolate, heavy malt gives thickness, a little roasted coffee, but staying rich and creamy. the wood aging gives a nice flavor with vanilla and oak. a very smooth beer with little bitterness and fantastic balance. Collint (451), Sylva, North Carolina, USA Mar 10, 2008 Bottle. Poures a thick pitch black with a nice puffy tan head. Aroma is sweet wood. Flavor is creamy chocolate, vanilla and roast. This beer is super smooth and I want more. Very very nice Impy stout. TikiE (360), Sylva, North Carolina, USA Mar 10, 2008 Amazing stout! Sooo creamy and smooth, with a fluffy tan head that lasts on a oil black body! Thanks CollinT for the delicious beer, twas amazing! AllAboutStout (605), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Mar 8, 2008 Pours very dark brown with a nice mocha head. Smell is slight bourbon. Taste is more of the bourbon with a nice hint of vanilla. Good mouthfeel, creamy. Good beer, but not best in class. RCL (1443), Waltham, Massachusetts, USA Mar 8, 2008 Very coconut-y wood character in the aroma. Very nice rice flavor with just a bit of drying woodiness on the finish. Quite tasty. BigBen2120 (688), Derry, New Hampshire, USA Mar 2, 2008 22oz. bomber from The Lighthouse in Manchester. Pours completely opaque black body with well over an inch of light brown head that slowly dissipates leaving much lacing. Wood and vanilla dominate the aroma, with hints of coffee and caramel in the background. Dark pleasant roasty coffee-dark chocolate, maltiness, and woody vanilla play equal roles in the flavor initially, but wood definitely dominates the finish and aftertaste. Rich full mouth-feel, though not viscous or sticky like some, with a fair bit of carbonation, more than is often seen in the style, but by no means does it hurt the beer. The carbonation along with the pleasing near-flawless flavor make this an extremely beer considering the full mouthfeel and abv. My only complaint for this beer is that the wood flavor could be a bit more subdued. Having said that, this beer is dangerously drinkable and is a new favorite for the style. cheapdark (2011), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 1, 2008 Black oily liquid, reminds me of the old oil out of a shovelhead. Rather light and acceptable aroma. Light carbonation greets the palate. Mouth coating bitter medicine, rude and difficult at times. Bitter, chewing on old charcoal finish. Murder on my taste buds three times over. Over the top as with any good imp stout. Catch a buzz anyone? The look and aroma save this from an enjoyability rating below two. Indra (2018), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA Feb 25, 2008 22oz. bottle, 2004 vintage. Richly malty semi-sweet chocolate aroma with suggestions of aged oak, vanilla, cream, raisin and plum along with fainter roasty, smoky, coffeeish notes. Fully opaque ebony color, no light escaping, with a lasting, fine, tan head. Flavor profile is fairly well dominated by a decadent dark chocolate sweetness, this blended with lighter shades of espresso, oak, marshmallow, fig and butter creme. Some lingering roasted grain and bourbon character in the long, drawn out finish. Thickly creamy and utterly smooth on the palate with just a touch of bitterness and oak tannins, body is full and gently warming. Certainly took well to the cellaring it underwent, emerging decadent and dessert-like.
