Commercial Description:
This is an incredibly intriguing ale is made by aging our Old Heathen Imperial Stout in oak barrels that were used for making fine Kentucky bourbon! The result is an extraordinary, dark, and mysterious stout whose very essence has been enhanced. The aroma is filled with vanilla, cocoa, and roasted coffee beans. This silky-smooth brew has notes of oak, whiskey, roasted barley and vanilla that meld together on the tongue to create an incredible sensation. Heresy is released in February.

Bomber, 2004 or 2005. Poured a healthy shade of clear deep brown with a short cap of deep yellowy-brown head that settles to a mottled dusting. The aroma is rather powerful, and highlights the barrel aging well.. sweet vanilla meets oak and bourbon sourness upfront.. well-roasted dark chocolate and molasses flow smoothly behind.. despite the big components, this remained pleasantly mellow. The flavor was rooted with well-roasted dark chocolate and the molasses shows leaves a sticky remider at the sides.. vanilla sweetness, bourbon, and sour, grainy oak also find the edges.. sour finish with bourbon and chocolate. Very dry on the palate, with almost refreshing sourness around the edges (just a bit too much oak at times).. medium-plus bodied and creamy across the middle. Nice one!

Pours a pitch black with a higher rising tan head that falls fairly quickly. Nose is thick molasses malts with mild coffee on there. The malts are the thickest character here though. Flavor is malty and thick. I get a touch of alcohol as well. Feel is about standard for the liquid, though it seems to fall off on the end to a more watery and thin feel. Carbonation is typical. Overall this is a good brew in the essence that it is even and smooth. There isn’t anything overly interesting going on here. Just an even keeled experience.

Nice dark body topped off with a small off-white head. The aroma has quite a bit of coffee, but there is also much of the caramel, vanilla, and bourbon aromas that you would expect. There is a ton of coffee on the palate with vanilla and caramel. Tastes like an Irish coffee with bailey’s.

22 oz. bomber, big thanks to coldbrewky. pretty close to black with some purple highlights, aroma of coffee, chocolate and vanilla, light hint of whiteboard marker but not enough to be off-putting, luscious texture, loads of whipped cream flavour. i enjoyed it a lot, although the czechs i shared this with were of the opinion that it wasn’t beer

12oz pour to black as night with a head the color of espresso. Nose is all bourbon and coffee with some very faint vanilla. tastes exactly as it smells except it seems a bit boozy. I guess that should be expected from the bourbon barrel aging. This is consistent all the way through the beer. This is a great stout and the bourbon background is spot on. Awesome! Well worth aging a year or so.

March 2006 - I was digging it...beautiful pour with light brown foamy head and lacing. Aroma and flavor was roasty malt and oak chips. Sweet...on the borderline of overly sweet, but not quite. They pulled it off. Nice.

Softer than the regular, but also a bit thinner really. The flavors are smoother but less defined. Still buttery. Less rum-like alcohol.
