The occasion, the lady making pumpkin Crème brûlée... and all I have to do is donate my brewing pot to an overnight turkey home.
Black brew, good fluidity in pour. Sweet and sour beer. Quite a fantastic combination. Something I don’t think I would have liked in the beginning of my beer education, ore even membership of with ratebeer, or possibly when I received this in a trade over a year ago, but now, quite nice.
I don’t know how this aged bottle compares to the fresh ones, but if this is any indication, age on people, age on. Really smooth, I’m glad I had the ’hold onto’ mentality with this one. Very slight alcohol taste right at the end is the only heat this one brings at it’s age. nhorween (639), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 13, 2007 22oz. Opaque ultra dark brown with a tan head. Bourbon like sweet woody aroma with chocolate and smoke - coffee and winter spices also, some alcohol. Flavor is decent, some bitterness, lots of coffee and chocolate, vanilla and oak are apparent. Woodiness pretty much overpowers everything else. It’s alright, but pretty unbalanced. Drink4Satan (585), Bristol, Rhode Island, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 9, 2007 Pours an inpenetrable black with a moderate, microbeble brown head that fades to a solid cap. The aroma has lightly sour and heavily alcoholic overtones above notes of star anise, roasted malts (less then average for style), sweet mocha, very subtle dark fruit and has an eggnog-like buttery quality. The flavour is bittersweet cocoa, smoke, oak/vanilla, bourbon, licorice and a roasted malt and hop bitter finish. There is nice balance of hop citrus and chocolate/coffee malts. Again, alcohol is very prevalent in the taste. The palate creamy and full-bodied with a long sticky finish. There is way too much booze for such a modest abv of 8%, but for $5 a bomber, this is some pretty good stuff. Alldaydrinker (558), Norwood, Massachusetts, USA

Aroma is very potent, liqourish, light red wine, boozy, and mild roasted coffee. Initial taste of dark fruits, coffee, alcohol, and oaky mocha background. Mild liqourish finish with soft bitter chocolate. Slight dry finish. Medium body. emerica56 (579), Bristol, Rhode Island, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Nov 8, 2007 This beer has a dark black color to it with a nice golden brown head. the aroma is very strong containing mainly coffee and roasted malt there is also some dark candy hints as well. As you drink the beer there is an nice initial flavor of mocha as well as some nice hints of toffee. The booze is not masked that well in this beer, but there is a tang flavor as well as the oak which makes up for it. the palate has a nice smokey and coffee finish to it which lasts for a decent amount of time. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 8, 2007 Pours a real oily black color with a nose of coffee, wood, vanilla and some roastedness. Flavor has some bourbon but not overwhelming, chocolate, coffee with the alcohol peeking slightly.Finished off smooth with no bitterness. tronraner (1911), Seymour, Tennessee, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 7, 2007 12 oz bottle. Pours black with small tan head. The aroma is roasty coffe, some chocolate, and noticeable bourbon. The flavor is slight coffee at first, then BAM, bourbon in my face. A mellow roastiness sneaks in, as do some chocolate and raisin notes. The finish is dry and very, very oaky, leaving vanilla and dryness in the aftertaste. Ok, but the bourbon is overdone. bp (455), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
