Commercial Description:
This is an incredibly intriguing ale is made by aging our Old Heathen Imperial Stout in oak barrels that were used for making fine Kentucky bourbon! The result is an extraordinary, dark, and mysterious stout whose very essence has been enhanced. The aroma is filled with vanilla, cocoa, and roasted coffee beans. This silky-smooth brew has notes of oak, whiskey, roasted barley and vanilla that meld together on the tongue to create an incredible sensation. Heresy is released in February.

Bottle via trade with JCB (I think...). Interesting aroma. Almost like an alcoholic shake. Vanilla, some wood and alcohol. Chocolate. Lots of milk chocolate and cocoa. Nesquik. Pours black with a reddish brown head. Not too much in the way of lacing. Flavor has lots of dry roasted chocolate malt. Cocoa powder. Not a lot of wood influence. Just a bit of vanilla from the wood tannin. Medium, bordering on full bodied. Pretty good.

Bottle from Slob - Thanks! Pours near black with a smaller brown head. Nose is oaky and sweet, some coffee and choclate too. Taste is sweeter than expected with vanilla playing a prominant role. Some cocoa and roast follow with a bit more of that oaky, barrel aged quality. Retains a little bitterness in the tail.

Bottle@Home. Coffee with milk aroma. Black color, light brown head, good lace. Sweet, milky, coffee, blackcurrant, vanilla. Soft mouthfeel. Not too complex but wonderfully pleasant.

Bottled. Aroma has chocolate, some coffee, roast, vanilla and it is a bit milky. Black coloured with a nice brown head. Taste is sweet, with chocolate roast and vanilla. Bit woody. Actually the taste is a bit like the narke kaggen stormaktsporter but weaker.

This bottle was served chilled but not too cold. There’s a thick, black pour with a small amount of head that is tan in color. After each pour, a fair amount of aroma can be detected that is very pleasurable. The flavor certainly makes up where the aroma may be lacking. There is a light bitterness with a hint of chocolate and a full oak and bourbon undertone. There is a moderatly strong alcohol flavor present that is balanced well for an overall smooth palate. I like this beer, but it is not my favorite of the oak barrell imperial stouts.

Bottle; poured black with a big, brown head; lacing. Aroma was really good; with chocolate, vanilla, bourbon, oak, and alcohol. Flavor was heavy on a semi bitter chocolate, vanilla, and oak/bourbon. Palate was almost like a milk stout, but still worked. A light sweetness. Very good, but not as good as many similar beers.

12oz pour. Poured black with a relatively fizzy dark brown head. Couldn’t get as much from the nose as I would have hoped. Body is delightfully complex with dark chocolate, touch of sambuca and a notion of bourbon from the alcohol content. Evolves into a finish that comes and goes in waves with a couple new flavors: roasted almond and espresso. Lingers like a good wine, in fact... drinking this reminds me of how I would approach a wine.
