Vinous aroma with lots of oak. Medium body with sweetish, malty accents. Lots of vanilla and bourbon notes. Almost no bitterness. Very soft and pleasant. This one was a little boozy with lots of bourbon flavor but pretty good...Pours very dark brown, virtually black with about 1 finger of brown head that recedes to a thin head that stays. Aroma pretty strongly bourbon, along with molasses, chocolate and coffee. Mouthfeel pretty smooth, a touch thin, kind of creamy. Nice thin, webby lacing. Flavor of bourbon, sweet coffee and chocolate. Oak taste emerges as it warms. Alcohol pretty well-hidden. Immy (1912), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Oct 1, 2006 Bomber. Black with a big light brown head. Big bitter chocolate nose, some wood. Nice, thick lace. Body is a bit watery. Bourbon is up front in the flavor, bitter coffee and mild, dark chocolate. Bitter chocolate finish. The best Weyerbacher thus far,IMO. noelcb (271), Toledo, Ohio, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Oct 1, 2006 Dark black, nice tan head, fine lacing. Aromas of malt, dark fruit, molasses, earth. Flavor surprised with an initial hit of black cherries and strawberries, followed by vanilla, toasted malt, burnt toast, plums and prunes, some herbal hops, charcoal, peat, madiera/sherry, tannin, smoke and peat. Palate’s a tad thin, perhaps, but not so you’d really notice. Not a best of breed but quite good. bogdi1 (32), Helsinki, Finland
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 29, 2006 12 oz. bottle, no batch number. Oaky bourbon nose with an interesting sour "port-wine gone bad" character. Roasted malts dominate flavor and are accompanied by bourbon, fruits and vanilla. There’s a nice balance with sweet malts and the dryness brought by barrel-aging. Finish is dry and long. Palate is thinner than expected and could have used more "motor-oil viscosity" to be really imperial. sliffy (1966), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Sep 28, 2006 Bottle: Very dark brown pour, a medium tan head that has some great lacing. Aroma, dark fruits, chocolate, oak, some toffee. Flavor, roasty malts, some woodiness, chocolate, vanilla. The alcohol isn’t noticable at all. There’s a nice sweet roasty finish to it, but it just doesn’t have that thick viscous feel to it that I crave in a good imperial. jcr (1148), Jasper, Indiana, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 21, 2006 This is the kind of oak-aged beer that impresses me — one that doesn’t taste like you are running your tongue across newly split, green wood. In other words, the oak is in the background and tends to highlight the other flavors that are nicely balanced. Inky black pour with a frothy dark tan head. The nose is filled with roasted malts, caramel, molasses, chocolate, coffee and a note of vanilla. And then there’s the oak. Light grassy hops are also detectable. Its flavor is long and sweet with moderate acidity and bitterness. The full body presents a thick and chewy texture. Average carbonation and a long finish. beerbill (1939), Laurel, New York, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Sep 21, 2006 22 oz. bottle. Pours opaque black with a thick, creamy tan head. Light pleasant aroma of coffe and chocolate. Flavor is coffee, chocolate, and roasted malt. As the beer warms, a warming scotch whiskey flavor becomes more noticeable. Very good stufff...I’ll be back for more!
