duff (5474), Surrey, Greater London, England Sep 7, 2006 Bottle. Black in colour. Lots of flavour/and a big aroma, thats for sure. Lots of vanilla, chocolate, mocha, oak, licorice in the nose. palate shows all these flavours and remains quite sweet throughout. Theres a lot of flavour, but it doesn’t quite meld together, and it seems a little unbalanced at times. Not bad, i think i prefer the Old Heathen to this though. DrBayern (1135), Morehead City, North Carolina, USA Sep 5, 2006 12 oz. bottle. Jet black with a rather fleeting dark tan head, little to no lace. The oakand whisky aromas are quite evident, but there is a bit of roasted malt and some piney hop aroam as well. Quite minimal carboantion, which is no fault as far as I’m concerned. Medium body with less fullness and mouth coating feel than many Imperial Stouts. It’s a littel lighter than I expect with this style. Faintly sweet roasted malts with hints of coffee and burnt caramel are kept at bay a background bitterness that’s notiiceable as soon as it enters the mouth. Interestingly, some of the sweetness extneds well into the finish as the bitterness fades. Kevin (1917), Colorado, USA Sep 3, 2006 bottle from kramer. solid black beauty with a large brown head. smells like a makers mark bourbon chocolate candy i had at the distillery. flavor is light roasted coffee, chocolate, some vanilla and bourbon flavors are there too but subdued, dry finish of wood, cocoa, some maple syrup. a nice one that does not fall in to the trap of being over barrel flavored. hophead75 (1945), Boonton, New Jersey, USA Aug 26, 2006 bottle. black with a light brown head. Aroma is very nice, roasted malt, chocolate, wood, and some bourbon/alcohol. Taste is about the same, with some vanilla notes, body is a tan thin on this one but still is nice... SoLan (1369), Orlando, Florida, USA Aug 23, 2006 Courtesy of The Epeeist. Black. 1.5 cm foamy tan head. Nose of roasty burnt malt, mocha, wood, vanilla, grahams, bourbon. Same flavor followed by a vanilla coffee aftertaste. Medium/full body, smooth. The little brother of Full Sail BA Black Gold. Solid, but room for improvement. beerhawk1975 (3), USA does not count Aug 21, 2006 What a great treat! I had this one in a swap up. Deep and rich in flavor. Not one I could drink more than two of, but one you can sip on slowly while you watch a nice movie with the wife. Complex beer which is necessary for a BIg beer. To many other big beers out there lack complexity and hit you with alcohol and no depth. not this one. Warming on the stomach, coats your mouth and pleases you whith each sip. I don’t know if I would buy a whole case of this one personally, but would swap up again and buy a six pack for sure. I have sampled a lot of Weyerbacher beers and this one is my favorite. Saarlander (1577), Saarlouis, Germany Aug 14, 2006 Poured jet black, with a dark head that lasted at least 15 minutes. Dark chocolate, some anis, Vanilla aftertaste. Not overpowering at all, what I like about this one is the flavor is great, but I’m not hit over the head right away, a well balanced, warming, good flavored brew. Thanks to Sprinkle for this gem! sersdf (1000), chicago, Illinois, USA Aug 12, 2006 lots of alcohol in the aroma. some hops, a good amount of mocha. very good looking. in the words of michael oberorf, if it was a hot chick i’d do it. initially had a bit of metal in taste, but that’s gone. now it’s quite hoppy, lots of normal impy tastes. god i missed this style. way too light bodied for the style though, that’s an unusally big disappointment. yeah, i’d do it.
