Commercial Description:
This is an incredibly intriguing ale is made by aging our Old Heathen Imperial Stout in oak barrels that were used for making fine Kentucky bourbon! The result is an extraordinary, dark, and mysterious stout whose very essence has been enhanced. The aroma is filled with vanilla, cocoa, and roasted coffee beans. This silky-smooth brew has notes of oak, whiskey, roasted barley and vanilla that meld together on the tongue to create an incredible sensation. Heresy is released in February.

Bottle poured an opaque black with a small brown head. Aroma was dark bitter chocolate, vanilla, coffee, with hints of bourbon and oak. Palate was smooooth and creamy. Flavor was vanilla and dark chocolate followed by notes of oak and bourbon with a smooth sweet finish. The bourbon flavor[which I love] is not very noticable in this beer but I like it a lot. Can’t wait to see how it ages!

Pours an opque black colour with a huge long lasting frothy head. Aromas of burnt malt, coffee and oak. Strong whiskey-like oak taste overpowers the roasted malt. This beer would be much better if the oak was a tad more subdued.

Bomber from axilla. Pours a dark brown color with a tan head. nose is mostly bourbon with a nice touch of very sweet caramel and chocolate mixed in. taste is caramel, rich chocolate and a bourbon finish that seems to work well even though the bourbon is semi strong. Finishes with a decent bitterness and a velvety coating on your palate.

Pours black with a small, dark head. Coffee and oak aroma. Flavor starts with standard roasted malts, then the bourbon comes in, and finally the oak on the dry finish. The flavors are good, but they don’t blend as well as they ought to. A little thin, but definitely enjoyable.

Thanks to Slob for this one. Aroma was dark roasted barley malt and mild coffee/vanilla notes with a whiff of alcohol. Deep black with a beuatiful thick head. I really warmed up to this. At first it was strange because rather than bourbon it seemed to me to taste like a full chocolate/coffee infused Stout up front and then very wine like in the finish. Almost tasted like wine poured into an Impy. But I really warmed up to it and enjoyed it immensely.

I think that in some bottles, the bourbon taste is a lot more subdued, but in my bomber the bourbon was overly present. It still looked very nice, and the nose was actually quite intriguing.( scents of bourbon and coffee in the nose). I can definently see where this stout is quality. It is just simply not to my liking.

Bottle, bomber: Pours an opaque oily black, very little carbonation within the body, has a large brown head which is mostly lasting. Aromas are milk chocolate, roast/toast, coffee, and the oak barrell is definately present. Flavor is mostly sweet milk chocolate milk, soem bitterness and dryness at the finish. Velvety mouthfeel.
