Commercial Description:
This is an incredibly intriguing ale is made by aging our Old Heathen Imperial Stout in oak barrels that were used for making fine Kentucky bourbon! The result is an extraordinary, dark, and mysterious stout whose very essence has been enhanced. The aroma is filled with vanilla, cocoa, and roasted coffee beans. This silky-smooth brew has notes of oak, whiskey, roasted barley and vanilla that meld together on the tongue to create an incredible sensation. Heresy is released in February.

Appearance: Pours a midnight brown with a ring of brown suds gathered at the top. Leaves spotty lacing throughout. Aroma: Oak, dark chocolate, licorice, bourbon, vanilla, and a little booze sting. Taste: Dark chocolate, coffee, dark fruit, a bit of spicy hop bitterness, and finishes with a twang. Mouthfeel: Silky smooth. Overall: A fantastic Imperial Stout with a real bite to it.

Great black pour with soap sudsy brown head and spotty lacing. Nose of sweet vanilla, slight alcohol, coffee creamer. Flavor is rich caramel, delicious roast malts, decadent chocolate, and oakey bourbon. Fantastic creamy full body is silky on the tongue. Truly wonderful

12 oz. Near black pour, with a little dark tan head. Some lacing. Aroma is roast malt, dark chocolate and some vanilla/oak. Good thick mouthfeel. Tastes heavy roast malt and coffee. Accented with chocolates, molasses. Oak, vanilla and caramel notes from the barrel is just barely present, this does slightly increase as it warms. Nice old coffee with some caramel creamer finish. Not a ton of barrel in my opion to differentiate from the regular Old Heathan, which makes this still pretty good. A real well balanced Imperial, drinkable with that lowish 8 abv. Unfortunately for this, I will be having a Founders Imperial Stout after this, which is going to be a bit much for this to compare to.

Opaque, dark brown body attached to a dense, tan cap. Looks rich and leaves some hearty lacing on the glass. Smells like chocolate cake, served with a cup of fresh Irish coffee. Oak, smoke, and bourbon provide some subtle nuances of a soft yet welcoming aroma. Body is medium to thick and exceptionally creamy. It rolls back nice and easy, has a velvety feel. Traces of whiskey are found amongst some rich chocolate, caramel and fudge flavors. Woody with a hint of smoke couple with heavy cream and black licorice. All in all it’s nothing terribly mind blowing, but it’s exceptionally well done. Completely comforting, it’s nice to immerse yourself in this brew.

My 1200th rating. A bottle, a chilled bottle. Poured a dark brownish/black hue with a thin brown head,no retention or lacng. Aroma had heavy coffee and dark chocolate notes. Flavor was nice and sweet a good chcolate presence with a complementory coffee note in the finish which was not to aggressive and not too weak either just right. A nice smooth and creamy mouthfeel. It was a little thin for this still but still nice overall. Any oak or bourbon note was undectable as a result from it being chilled.....i hope. allin all a averege impy stout, which is never a bad thing.

reddish dark brown with frothy milk-chocolate head aroma is very roasty, lots of nuttyness and green olives. also plenty of vanilla and whisky, though not really much oak otherwise. taste is a bit sour in front, leading to slick sweetness that leaves a long coffee finish. it is certainly silky smooth but is maybe just a bit too thin. alcohol (though it’s not that high) is well-hidden.

Bottle Pours a good black with a real good brown head. The head is foamy and lasting. Has a good aroma of malts, chocolate, and hints of vanilla. Has a good carbonation. A good mouthfeel.. The flavor is strong with plenty of alcohol, but the sweet chocolate does come through. Has a big sweet flavor kick which settles as you sip the beer. Has a syrupy texture, a full body. This one builds up to a good finish and a decent aftertaste.
