Commercial Description:
This is an incredibly intriguing ale is made by aging our Old Heathen Imperial Stout in oak barrels that were used for making fine Kentucky bourbon! The result is an extraordinary, dark, and mysterious stout whose very essence has been enhanced. The aroma is filled with vanilla, cocoa, and roasted coffee beans. This silky-smooth brew has notes of oak, whiskey, roasted barley and vanilla that meld together on the tongue to create an incredible sensation. Heresy is released in February.

The aroma is heavenly with chocolate, vanilla, oak, latte, bourbon, and malt. The appearance is almost black with a small head. The flavor is exactly like the aroma. The palate is thick and smooth. Overall a really really really good beer. Wow

Pours a pitch black body with a foamy, tan head that settles to a thin flim with some sudsy lacing left behind. The aroma shows notes of chocolate, caramel, bourbon soaked dark fruit, and some oaky vanilla. The flavor is rich with the chocolate and bourbon. Dark fruits, bourbon soaked raisins, and oak flavors come through and really sweeten things up. The vanilla and oak really come through in the finish with the bourbon flavors lingering. Medium bodied, but a touch thin for an imperial stout, but still slick and easy to drink. Pretty good for a bourbon aged stout, and one I am sure I will try again.

12oz bottle served in a clear pint glass. Pours a motor oil black with a thick head that was just a few shades lighter. Very The aroma was molasses and coffee. The taste was much the same. I really enjoyed the smooth creamy texture with this beer and I thought this was a very pleasent Russian Imperial Stout.

Pours black with a medium creamy tan head which leaves a few streaks of lacing. Aroma is vanilla extract, bourbon, light oak, chocolate, and dark coffee roasts. Taste is much the same. Rather creamy mouthfeel. Tastes more like a Stout than an impy. Very enjoyable.

Pours brownish/black with thick tan head. Aroma of vanilla, bourbon, and oak. Taste of oak, vanilla, slight bourbon notes, and chocolate. Thin on the palate. This would be very good if not so watered down.

Bottle shared with Steve and Eric. Amazing beer. Pours really dark brown almost black. Smells of coco and vanilla. With flavors of choc, coffee, coconut and vanilla. A must get.

12oz bottle. Pours a deep, opaque onyx with a thin, short-lived, light tan head. The aroma is chewy with candy-like malts, toffee, chocolate-covered raisins, subtle anise, alcohol, and a light - but distinct - aroma of bourbon. The flavor starts smooth with a blend of dark fruit, coffee ice cream, and tangy, caramelly malts. At mid-tongue, some earthy balancing bitterness enters along with distinct notes of vanilla and very mild woody/oaky flavors. The finish is smooth and short with notes of chocolate and vanilla and warming alcohol. The aftertaste is rich with coffee and chocolate with a subtle hint of whiskey. The mouthfeel is soft and creamy and - though full-bodied and slippery - a bit lighter in body than I expected. Overall, a very interesting and drinkable strong brew, but it’s missing something. It isn’t as pungent or roasty as I expected (or remembered from the un-oak’ed version of it). But the subtle whiskey notes are pleasing and collaborate well with the flavors in this beer. I like it, but was hoping for something more special (something I’d rate as 4 or higher...)

Big thanks to daknole. Black pour with a tall, coffee-brown head. Good retention, spotty lace. Aroma has bourbon-vanilla, some melon and other fruits, just slightly roasted on the finish. Flavor similar, very mellow beginning with the sweet caramel-vanilla bourbon barrel elements, some dark fruit, licorice, horehound candy on the mid-palate, finishing hot and resinous, as the more woody barrel elements come through. Full bodied, a bit of tannic astringency. Very nice, although much of the fruit basket complexity that I love in Old Heathen has been lost in the barrel.
