COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is an incredibly intriguing ale is made by aging our Old Heathen Imperial Stout in oak barrels that were used for making fine Kentucky bourbon! The result is an extraordinary, dark, and mysterious stout whose very essence has been enhanced. The aroma is filled with vanilla, cocoa, and roasted coffee beans. This silky-smooth brew has notes of oak, whiskey, roasted barley and vanilla that meld together on the tongue to create an incredible sensation. Heresy is released in February.

12 oz. bottle. Pitch black pour, with a small, rocky, light brown head. The aroma is bittersweet chocolate, vanilla, light smokiness, syrup, and rather significant notes of peat and whiskey. The flavor is very sweet, with some light roasted bitterness and a note of sourness in the finish. Heavy body, syrupy, and a little chalky. The finish is long, sweet, and sticky, with a lot of whiskey warming. Overall, this is a good stout, made significantly better with the application of whiskey barrels.

Nice oaky scent in a deep black color. Light notes of tar and tobacco but vanilla shows through. Rich coating. Tap

Darft at Pour Taproom in Asheville. Poured dark brown with decent tan head. Aroma was great, dark fruits, coffee, oak, vanilla, perhaps a bit of dark chocolate if you dive deep. A lot of oak in the taste along with, whiskey, coffee, raisin, sour.

Appearance: silky near-black pour, with a short, dark tan head. Aroma: strong dark bitter chocolate, vanilla, burnt molasses, light soy sauce, and a light undertone of whiskey and wood. Taste: sweet, with very dark chocolate, espresso, prominent vanilla and cream, burnt wood, brown bread, and bourbon. Finish: lingering sweetness, lightly syrupy, a low and smooth heat from the bourbon. Notes: Liked this a lot. Often these barrel-aged stouts are north ot 10% abv and kick your teeth in with the bourbon. This was light enough that the bottle was a savored pleasure, not a chore to finish the final sips. The well-restrained alcohol let the flavors shine. Bottle from Total Wine & More in Fairfax, Virgina (Pickett Center).

Nose is heat/whiskey, coffee grounds, faint cocoa. Flavor is same plus some red fruit, wet oak, touch of paper/oxidation, vanilla, chocolate more prominent than in aroma. solid especially for the price.

12 oz. bottle from Total Wine, Chesapeake, VA (bottled February 11, 2015). Dark brown, nearly black, pour with a short brown head. Great aroma of chocolate cake, vanilla, whiskey, and oak. Nice flavors of coffee and chocolate blended with vanilla, coconut, bourbon, and wood. Moderate alcohol warming. A great imperial stout!

Bottle, a few years old. Nose of chocolate, vanilla, coffee, oxidation. A bit light, minerally, somewhat thin but tasty.

Bottle. Thick pruney nose. Dark fruit flavors, blends and moves into a light boozy chocolate mid palate, and then it flattens out. All fairly mild, compared to what it should be. 3-4 years-old. Unfortunately, some oxidation has diminished the flavors

Black pour from 12oz bottle from trade, at home. Off white head. Aroma is a lite fruity and toasty. Tastes more like a sour than a stout to me. Grape, fruits, whiskey and a hint of cocoa. Really unique. Pleasantly drinkable

Pitch black color. Dark brown head. Huge bourbon nose with massive caramel, dark chocolate and oak nose. Slightly sour mouth with lots of caramel and dark chocolate. Slight umami finish.
