Draft / Growler..Saw this on tap at a craft beer liquor store. My best friend swears by this beer and I figured I had to try it. Love the way this beer pours. Sweet smell, looks like wine and guinness combined. Fruity start to a Chocolate fade finish. Love this beer. 7/22/2010

1.6 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 4/20
Bottle: Mostly black pour, some dark brown near the top with a foamy, rich tan head that slowly settles to a foam. Aroma of tart red apple, grapes, & a strong, sour acetic & vinegar note. Slight dark malt? But this thing is infected as fuck & smells gross. Flavor isn’t as bad... Burnt caramel, rich milk chocolate, but there’s still a big acetone tartness, vinegar, & a sour dark fruit finish. Gross. Goddamn nasty infected shit.

4.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Really good. The subtleness of the oak blends perfectly with the malty and licorice flavor of the imperial stout.

2.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Pour is jet black with a tight caramel head that dissipates quickly. Nose is assertive bourbon, slightly harsh, heavy roast, slightly acrid, very sugary. Ouch, taste is rough, heavily acrid, burnt malts, extremely sweet finish, body is thin, empty in back, light carb, slick oily feel.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours pitch black with a one finger khaki head with nice lacing. Aroma is of roasted malts, coffee, bourbon, vanilla, oak, coco, tobacco, dark fruits, caramel sweet malts, and some anise. Taste is of good bourbon aged stout with a lot of nice oak, whiskey, roasted malts, vanilla, coffee, licorice, dark fruits, and just a little booze in the finish. Has a medium-full body with a creamy, oily mouthfeel and a slightly bitter, semi dry, long, lingering, slightly warming finish. Overall, a pretty nice bourbon barrel aged stout that isn’t too boozy compared to similar beers of the style.

From bottle into snifter. Black with large light brown head. Nose is coffee, bourbon, roasted barley. Oily body, sweet with a slight bitterness at the end. Long finish if coffee and burnt toast. Good.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Pours black with a khaki head. Aromas of roasted malts, bourbon, chocolate. Strong alcohol taste (cheap vodka), roasted malts, oak. Creamy, full mouthfeel. Medium bodied with a bitter finish. For me, it is a bit hot and doesn’t live up to the aroma.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle to glass. Pours a nice deep brown to black color with a light tan head. Aroma is roasted malts, cocoa, very faint hint of barrel. Flavor is a well rounded roasted malts, light vanilla, cocoa, bourbon character, that really comes out more as it warms. Wish there was a bit more barrel presence, but this is certainly a solid beer. Especially for the low price tag!

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Nothing special. High carbonation, malty, lacks complexity. Pours silky but with no head. Would not buy again

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
12 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 2/3/2015. Pours pitch black color with a 1 finger dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, dark bread, vanilla, toffee, bourbon, oak, light dark fruit, and roast/oaky earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt, bourbon barrel, and light dark fruit notes; with great strength. Taste of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, dark bread, vanilla, toffee, bourbon, oak, light dark fruit, and roast/oaky earthiness. Light roast/oaky bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, dark bread, vanilla, toffee, bourbon, oak, light dark fruit, and roast/oaky bitterness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice complexity and balance of dark/roasted malt, bourbon barrel, and light dark fruit flavors; with a great malt/barrel balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and medium bodied; with a very smooth, fairly creamy, and slightly bready/chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent barrel aged imperial stout. All around great complexity, balance, and robustness of dark/roasted malt, bourbon barrel, and light dark fruit flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. The barrel character is very pronounced, but not overdone. A very enjoyable offering.
