Wow! Very dark brown with a lare thick head. Smooth and rich, tastes of vanilla and butterscotch. Alcohol taste is quite evident-this one is potent! Has a kind of scotch taste to it. Not one to swill but to sip and enjoy. Thumbs up!

12fl oz. Bottled 03/10/14. Pours black with an active, two finger, tan head. Aroma has big notes of whisky, slightly tart cherry, vanilla and roasted malts. Taste is balanced. Big whisky barrel notes with dark chocolate, and a touch of coffee. Medium-full body with a medium carbonation. Creamy in the mouth with a set finish. Overall pretty nice. Big, Swwet whisky notes with roasty dark chocolate notes.

Bottle. Pours a clear black body under a small frothy dark brown head that faded to a thin wispy covering. The aroma is heavy on the roast, chocolate, and burnt caramel. Lighter notes of vanilla, bourbon, alcohol, maybe even a hint of smokiness. The flavor is not quite as intense as I remember it being, it’s been years since I’ve had one of these. The roast doesn’t seem quite as intense, and the bourbon is fairly well restrained, making it quite a more easy drinking than I was expecting. The malt is a bit de-emphasized in favor of a little more barrel character, which is mostly vanilla and oak. Fairly well hidden alcohol, but there’s a bit of warmth on the finish. Not quite the depth and complexity I remember, but it has been a really long time. Medium to full bodied with a slightly clingy and sticky finish. Light soft carbonation. Doesn’t taste quite as good as my memory recalls.

Black, with a huge mocha head. Aroma roasty and strongly alcoholic. Chalk, and dark fruit notes. Roast and alcohol carry through to taste as well, with chalk and ash showing in palate, along with warming feeling down throat. The influence of the whisky barrel is very clear compared with the regular version, and helps give more substance to the beer.

Is this really an imperial stout? I got barleywine in the tast. Pours dark brown with foamy tan head. Aroma of vanilla, sugar, and tons of sweet malts. Taste of booze and overly sweet. Def more like a barleywine for me than a stout. Was really let down.

From a bottle. Pours very dark brown with a thick, creamy tan head. Smells like alcohol, vanilla, some cinnamon and coffee beans. Tastes like booze, vanilla, chocolate, some cinnamon, and coffee bitterness.
