4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: APR 22, 2013 Aroma is very vanilla, mild alcohol & slight chocolatey roast. Appearance is deep dark with a off brown head. Taste starts out mildly chocolatey with a nice easy feel almost no alcohol burn at all! Palate is thick and viscous with a great feel, it does have almost too much carbonation though. Overall, great beer canít wait to age a few bottles!
Re-visited this after a 8 month aging! Great depth! Lots of the flavors feel the same but with more deepness.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Look - Small head was quick to develop and quick to dissipate. Tan medium bubbles head. Thick black body with brown edges. No sediment. No lacing.
Smell - Sweet bourbon. Vanilla. Coffee. Chocolate. Light berry.
Taste - Subdued bourbon. Chocolate. Coffee. Vanilla. Berry.
Feel - Looks much heavier than it is but still heavy. Carbonation more apparent than look. Bitter bite on tongue.
Overall - Lets call this Bourbon Barrel Aged Light. Average. I see myself hovering around 4 with ratings so take that in to account.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle dated 02/17/15 (born on), 10/17/15 (best by).
This was poured into a snifter.
The appearance was a dark brown close to black color with a slim fingerís worth of tan to off white foamy head that dissipated within less than about forty seconds. Slim clingy slightly foamy lacing roams around the glass nicely.
The smell starts with rich dark fruits with a good amount of rich sweet milk chocolate and bitter dark chocolate. All three meld really nice. A dry sweet semi-chocolatey aftertaste runs into the finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a fairly decent sipping quality about it. Carbonation comes across really nice and low. The dryness hits my tongue the hardest but not overbearing.
Overall, this was a pretty good Russian Imperial Stout but not a lot of whiskey barrel shows up. Maybe it was my timing but I wouldnít mind trying again fresher.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Very dark brown pour, nearly black, with a tan head. Aroma is bourbon, vanilla, roasty chocolate and coffee, raisin, prunes. Flavour is much the same; a definite whisky note up front with lots of dried fruit and roasty notes at the end. Surprisingly sweet, perhaps a little cloying. Barrel aging definitely didn't mellow this out - rather just gave it a boozy whiskey note. Very tasty, but imbalanced.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Poured from a bottle. Not much head, but amazing lacing, indicative of an incredibly creamy consistency. Terrific aroma of coffee and bourbon. Smooth and rich as it goes down. Delicious beer.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
12 oz bottle from Giant Eagle in Pittsburgh. Hits you hard at first but soon mellows in on the palate. Tons of whiskey taste throughout. Comes on too sweet at times.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Deep clear almost-obsidian, just with some warmer touches. Good sized velvety brown head that lasts quite some time
Nose starts kind of thin with sweet figs and char. Not much more.
Sweet dark fruits dominate and then an alcohol wallop that tickles the throat long after itís been swallowed. Sweet dark fruits and alcohol. I get no barrel outside of the alcohol itself. Maybe a faint hint of oak part way through but not much.
Not bad per se if it were just a basic overly boozy stout (but still not GREAT [Iím not as big on the fruitier stouts like Anchor, preferring more roasty/char/etc. But thats just me]), but looking for a BA it leaves much to be desired.
