Aroma is semi-sweet chocolate chips, Hershey syrup, cocoa powder and a dash of instant coffee. On the palate, it’s thin, syrupy and reminiscent of a 48-hour old pot of coffee that’s been dashed with chocolate syrup. I detect little to no difference between this and Old Heathen. Melted, stale chocolate chip finish. Oak? Whiskey? Vanilla? Yeah right. Thanks to tpkenned for bringing this one along. ABUSEDGOAT (1934), California, USA

With usual impy stout characteristics the oak aging helped make this smoother and brought in some vanilla flavoring. Almost a milky mouthfeel. swoopjones (1933), Buffalo, New York, USA

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 22, 2007 Updated: Apr 25, 2007Pours a deep black, oily in appearance. The head is a tad thick for an imp.stout. Chestnut brown. Creamy and reasonably quick in subsiding. Sweet, candy/bubblegum aroma, alcohol, bakers chocolate, and coffee. There is a noticeable alcohol bite, slight bourbon and oak taste, burnt chocolate and coffee. Very prominent roast. Burnt roasty palate with an alcohol coolness. The finish was warm from alcohol and sweet. Overall a much better imperial stout than I expected but I also love imperial stouts and tend to have a bias towards them.
